Knights.
That is pretty slick. The FN forend did strike me as wasted space.
As for the cheekweld on mine, decades of shooting old school AR-15s with optics on the carry handle has made me pretty used to high optics. When I shoot hunting rifles the scopes are usually so low it actually makes it hard for me to readjust.
Thanks. How hard was it to mount the rails on the foreend and receiver top of the G-3? What did it involve in terms of modifying the gun or the rails?
Do they have rails specifically designed for the G-3/HK-91?
It’s been a few years since I did it, I didn’t have to modify the host rifle. They made rails specifically for the G3 but if memory serves they haven’t made them for some time and they are now hard to find. And I do recall it being a little involved to get everything to fit correctly.
This also isn’t one of my “go to” guns, the truth of the matter is I bought the rail systems to have them and rather than have them sit in a box full of various accessories I put them on one of my rifles that isn’t in regular use, sorta like storing parts on the rifle if that makes any sense. I do that a lot on guns that don’t get regular use and it sometimes results in a mall ninja configuration.
It makes sense to have the rails on the G-3/HK91 to be able to mount an Aimpoint on the receiver and light on the foreend.
Are there other options to to allow the mounting of STANAG mounts on the receiver?
Besides the original HK claw mounts the only ones I’m aware of are the various B&T mounts, not counting airsoft quality stuff of course.
A little addendum. I heard from a friend who bought a MSAR STG-556 E4 model which is designed to take AR mags. It works fine with Pmags and the mags that came with it, but seems to have issues with aluminum GI type mags. SO if you are considering buying one, keep this in mind. The TPD that I T&E’ed also had problems functioning reliably with some aluminum GI mags.
Strange, it was my understanding that the TPD used factory Steyr NATO stocks so they should run with USGI mags just fine. Note sure which stock MSAR is using, but I suspect they are rolling their own as that makes the most sense given their capacity to produce such an item.
That said, I think Pmags are a superior mag anyway and aesthetically look better in an AUG rifle. Not that looks are all that important to a shooter.
Enough G3 discussion. Let’s stay on topic re: the OP’s original question.
Another thing to consider. With the Aug and Aug clones there are trigger kits out there to make the horrendious trigger tolerable. What can be done on the HS2000. I did not like the trigger on the one I tried.
