Ok gentlemen. I’ve been debating wether I ask this or not for some time now. So here it goes.
Has anyone pulled the SMK from a MK262 and seated a 70gr tsx? I know this sounds silly but I have hunted hogs with this hybrid a few times and was wondering if anyone else has done something like this before.
Why not just load the TSX??
I have loaded it. I just figured since load data for both are fairly close. I thought to my self why not pull the SMK and seat a few TSX’s and maybe get some velocity boost a la MK262. What sucks is my chrony died on me so I’m kinda stuck on my little experiment for now. I’m gonna shoot a few 10rd groups to see if its even worth the trouble.
Maybe it’s a brainfart of mine idk. But I’m intrigued with the results.
What you are doing is called Mexican match loading. It has been done for years.
Usually when people load this way they use a cheap round, and load it with a nicer bullet. I think you have found a way to make one of the more expensive bullets to load cost even more. Your essentially paying 1$ for brass, primer, and powder. You should be able to load the 70 tsx for much cheaper without wasting money on crap from black hills.
I had been thinking of doing this for defensive purposes. I like the 77gr bullet, but always worry about that rare case separation on a used piece of brass.
Plus the idea of a crimped and sealed primer for defense isn’t bad either.
Markm if you want brass with a crimp, and sealed primer you can buy lake city brass that is still primed, crimped, and sealed. The companies that get the de-mil contracts sell all the components separate. That where we get the pulls, and wc844 powder. you can find places selling the brass. I have not found any in a while, but if you can buy as much Sanyo can afford.
It is some of my favorite brass to load. Just run it through a neck sizer or a full length sizing die without the stem then load. You can push the pressure with these loads into true 556 pressure range.
Yeah… I’ve seen that brass around, but never tried it.
If i can find it i buy all that i can. Its nice to brass with rimped primers. If you want to load 556 there is no better brass. It really lets you push the pressure. Im looking for some now to do a run of partitions, and nosler bsb.
I remember seeing it in Cheaperthandirt’s catalog before. Never heard any reviews on it. I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled.
Its not any better than lake city brass. The thing i like about it is the first high pressure load fired is your choice. Not just a Fmj. I wish they made a tool to crimp primer pockets.
Primed and crimped Lake City 5.56MM Brass. I bought some earlier this year from Graf and the neck even had sealant in it.
