Hello all! Well, I am getting ready to piece together the AR I have always wanted and have an optics question for you. I am going to start out with irons and then get a red dot. The rifle will be a flat top with a fixed front sight. It seems Troy is the way to go for good BUIS, any other makers who should be considered? I don’t mind spending some money, I want this rifle for the long haul. All I need now is the sights and the BCM middy upper I have been drooling over…
I currently run a Troy folding BUIS on my LMT behind an Aimpoint. I don’t have any complaints. When I get my 6920 set up, I plan to have a fixed LMT BUIS behind another Aimpoint. Search into the term co-witness some and see which method you think you may prefer. This may help you choose a BUIS.
Troy is pretty much the gold standard for flip down BUIS. I’ve owned several sets and they’re very well machined and robust.
I’ve recently switched over to the Knights Armament 200 - 600 meter BUIS, with both windage and elevation adjustment. It’s an awesome BUIS, definitely worth taking a look at as well.
Thanks for the info guys! I will check out the LMT, it looks pretty good and I trust LMT. I have seen them before but wasn’t sure because they are so thin, I was worried about durability however, I don’t think I will be draging this rifle through a mine any time soon. Another thing I have been considering is tritum inserts. I love tritium and put it on all my pistols, any one have it in their rifles? Not to many rifles come with tritium on the front sight post, have you dealt with these? http://www.topgunsupply.com/meprolight-tritium-front-sight-ar-15.html I have some mepros on one of my pistols and they get the job done. If I get a rear folding with tritium it looks like troy is the only one to go with. Thanks again, I would rather ask questions than make a purchase and regret it later.

I don’t think you need to worry about the durability of a KAC BUIS, especially considering that the KAC is truly a BUIS while many others are only a BUAS (Back Up Aluminum Sight).
My MBUS isn’t half bad for being a backup sight…if I planned on using my irons extensively I’d probably go troy or DD fixed. In fact I’m half considering swapping out the MP rear sight for a fixed rear real soon…

On that note, LMT actually makes a pretty bitching fixed rear sight.
