building a ''retro''clone of the M16A2

howdy, i’ve posted this question in the vintage section… but then i thought ? its a clone of the M16A2.

so i re-posted here too.

what would be the correct handguard cap for a M16A2 ?
triangular ? or round ?

i have a 20’’ 1/7 NATO marked FNMI barrel.

also ? would green furniture be correct ?

thanks for any answers.

don’t forget to post pics!! :big_boss:

Just curious but why not an A4? You can get the same sight system as an A2 with a carry handle but retain the flat top upper?

already have an A4, 20’’ government profile barrel’ but i used the troy rail’s.
rock river lower, two stage match.
its really nice.

this time i wanted a fixed A2 upper with XS same plane sight’s.
and a FN barrel.

my favorites are the older style A1’s.
just trying to have an example of each model in my collection.

if you could call my little group of rifles a collection.

A while back YHM had A2 uppers for cheap.

The M16A2 has the round hand guards. The triangle hand guards were on the M16 and M16A1.

The OP was referring to the handguard cap. Although the A2 came with round hand guards they were still fitted with a triangular cap.

And your front site base should not be the “F” marked type if memory serves…

I think you’re right

btw, I’ve seen both F and non-F marked FSB on Colt 20’’ A2 upper

yes, my FN barrel’ is not ‘‘F’’ marked’

i think ? i will use the green furniture’ maybe not totally correct.
but i found a A1 buttstock’ but looks exactly like an A2 stock. aluminum trap door and all. and the screwed in style A2. sling swivel.
cept it’s green and 5/8th inch shorter.

i could always ? later on… paint it black. i suppose ?
