I have read several threads recommending which buffer tubes to run and have watch the 1000 fps videos on buffer tubes. I have even seen a diagram explaining on which way the casing ejects for which buffer tube to use. Most of the buffer tube info that I read never said the barrel length that the person was running it with, and most were having problems so they switched buffers and it cured it. Some people said not to even worry about your buffer weight if the gun is running correctly and they act like the different buffers are over rated.
I read several threads from google
and these recent ones from here. https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=81689 https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=68966
I have a BCM (upper and lower) 11.5" SBR. I have not been able to personally shoot any guns in the last several months do to an injury, so I had a left handed friend shoot my SBR while I accompanied him at the range. I watched while he shot it. I have a semi auto BCG and with 2 different buffer weights the gun still shoots 100%. The “H” buffer throws the brass at 2 o’clock at to about 6 feet. The H2 buffer throws brass at 4-5 o’clock and a few were barley missing his face. The reason I am asking is because he said he felt more recoil with the “H2” than the “H”. He said with both weights, the spring was very loud and he thought it was louder than normal. I guess I could have had him try a regular carbine and see what results that gets.
I am going to get a H3 buffer to try, and a BCM auto BCG when they are back in stock. So will the semi vs. auto BCG need a change with the buffer weight. Also When I get my suppressor tax stamp, this SBR will be ran 100% suppressed. I am guessing all of this will change which buffer I need to run. He thought it ran best with the “h” buffer, but with the ejection pattern at the 2 o’clock, I am guessing the gun is “over gassed”. But how do I know which tube to run? Also will I need to change the spring? So which buffer tube would offer less felt recoil? If you can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.
My main questions are what differences will I see when I get the auto BCG, and what differences will I see when I suppress my SBR. Thanks
Throw the semi-auto BCG in trash or sell it. They serve no purpose.
Who cares "what o’clock’? Does it function reliably? That is the real concern.
Totally subjective. My wife thinks that a G19 has “kick” to it. What matters is when you shoot it.
The spring was loud, really?
The tube has nothing to do with it. We are talking about buffers.
Since you cited those two posts I commented specifically about my BCM 11.5" SBR and what worked for me. When I ran an H2 buffer, it functioned 100% but I did have failures to lock back after the last round. Then I went to an H3 and the problem disappeared. I also used a blue Springco spring from the beginning as well.
I have had ZERO malfunctions either suppressed or unsuppressed using M855, M193, 55gr. Steel TAP, 75gr. Steel TAP, Hornady 8126N, markm reloads or anything else.
You are overthinking this. Get the suppressor first. Set it up and shoot the thing. Not only will you learn first hand what works for you, but you will also get some experience playing with the different weights and variables.
