What would the proper buffer weight be for a rifle length gas 308 AR? I’ll be using a Mil-spec buffer tube and see plenty of buffers and springs listed for carbines, and I’m wondering if the rifle length gas system will need anything different?
Carbine buffer tube or rifle buffer tube?
I’m thinking adjustable carbine tube.
For an AR-15 carbine receiver extension you’ll want the Heavy Buffers Modified AR-10 Spring and Heavy Buffers CAR-10 Buffer.
Alternatively, you can get a VLTOR A5 receiver extension, AR-10 action spring, and H3 buffer.
Why would you not want to go with rifle RE - other than the ‘limited’ stock offering of course?
(PS +1 on the VLTOR set up as suggested above)
Thats the primary reason. Limited stock options and I’m not too thrilled about how any of them look other than the original looking M16 rifle stocks on retro look rifles.
This is the way to go. I believe this offering from LMT uses the longer A5 receiver extension as is used on the LMT mws, LaRue OBR, and KAC SR25 series. http://www.lmtstore.com/bolts-carriers-groups/buttstocks/l7la2c.html
It does, but it doesn’t include the action spring lol.
I agree with the above set up - AR10 or A5 receiver extension, H3 buffer, and AR-10 carbine spring. It is a solid set up and much better than the WAY under-buffered DPMS shorty carbine buffer. The other option is a A2 stock with rifle buffer - this is probably the optimal for function given a longer spring and the heaviest stock buffer, but not everybody wants a fixed stock.
