I measured my buffer spring for tolerance the other day and it is right at 10 and 1/16th inches. I realize that’s on the low end of the acceptable range. Is it time to replace it, or should I only worry when it falls under that length?
any cycling problems?
No malfunctions yet.
It’s called “preventative maintenance”. You replace it before you have problems. I would replace it with a quality spring.
Are the CS flat springs like the TUBBS the way to go? Or just a waste o’ cash?
I have found them to be too long for carbine length use and is why you generally need to cut them down.
I like/use/sell the BLUE Springco CS buffer springs.

I replaced my buffer spring when it got to 10 1/8’’ after 2k rounds.
Used sprinco tactical buffer spring [blue].
Hey Grant, I cant seem to find those springs on your website am I blind or are you out of them?
Wow guess I am blind  thanks Grant.
Thanks Grant, order sent.
Keep in mind CS springs are much more prone to rust than SS springs even though they last longer.
I personally use either BCM, Colt, or LMT regular carbine springs, and replace about every 3k rounds.
If you use cheap CS there is a rust concern. High quality CS springs have about the same properties as SS. So rust is not an issue .
The Springco CS buffer springs are from high quality CS.

Ok.
Other people have said differently on this very site, and they were industry professionals/SME labeled next to their name. If they are similar so be it but there appears to be conflicting info getting out.
Please provide links to discussions about either ismi or sprinco springs rusting.
Below is a pic of me at Blackwater this year. It rained cats and dogs. The spring in my gun has seen at least four pouring rain classes. No rust issues.

Cool.
Not too concerned about any rust issue. I live in a nice dry desert climate.
I replace my carbine length buffer springs when they are 10 1/4" or shorter. I’m a bit more anal than most. I can’t remember the last time I had one of my ARs malfunction.
I’d replace it.
Contrary to Grant’s recommendation (Who undoubtedly knows more than me). I’d run a Sprinco red spring.
They work good for me. I run it with either a Spike’s buffer, or H2. (DI gets Colt H3 buffer.)
ETA: Grant that picture is bad-ass. What are the specs on that build? (I’d appreciate a PM, if you think it’d derail the topic.)
I use BCM or standard rate Brownells chrome silicon buffer springs. The Brownells springs start out at 10.5" and I replace either type then they are between 10 3/8" and 10 1/4" in length.
