Does anyone have any experience with either of these 2 products. I am looking to reduce shoulder pain from recoil in an older (72) with shoulder damage
It’s a cumulative thing after a day of shooting a .22 ar doesn’t bother him, but he wants to shoot the regular ar. Besides a larger pad on the rear of the stock.

Neither of those is going to help. In addition messing with buffers and springs can affect your weapons operation.
Have your friend use a P.A.S.T. recoil shield

If he still finds the carbine kicks too hard, a rifle length AR generally has softer recoil

Limbsaver makes a snap-on recoil pad that attaches to std AR milspec buttstocks.
Also, the Vltor A5 recoil system will serve to increase reliability, reduce overall gun movement (in every direction), and smooth the recoil impulse.

I have a bad shooting shoulder, so I use anything that reduces recoil.
I started with a Mako recoil reducing stock for carbine ARs, it works good. Added a ATI recoil absorbing pistol grip, works OK.
Added a Limbsaver pad, also works great. Found out a company makes recoil pads with Sorbothane, haven’t got one yet, have one on order. Great reviews at Midway, only complaints are from people too dumb to get the correct pads.
Also have Spikes tactical T2 buffers, they say they reduce recoil, couldn’t tell as I added the Mako recoil reducing stock at the same time.
A muzzel break can also reduce recoil, but generally greatly increases noise to the shooter.
The mako stock seems to work with the little time i have had on one.
Ignore the Spokes ST-T2, its one of those products they make with alot of claims and no proof, actually in slo mo videos the ST-T2 tens to perform like a carbine buffer as far as bolt bounce goes.
A 20" M16 type rifle with the VLTOR A5 will give you the softest you can get. Ive tried one and it felt like a .22 it was impressive.

The only way a buffer can reduce recoil is if it’s heavier than the one it replaces. A buffer of the same weight might change how the recoil feels but it cannot reduce the recoil the shooter receives
A few years back I did a build and stubbled across the least recoil in a AR.
Noveske lo pro 14.5 with a Surefire 556K comp.
Full auto carrier ( Which the noveske comes with)
“H” buffer
and last Magpuls extended butt pad on a ctr stock.
I shoot Federal M193 ammo through it . ( Which is loaded pretty warm)
The gun has the recoil of a .22 rifle, but it is loud due to the comp.
I don’t know if any one item is causing the low recoil, maybe the Surefire comp.
If noise isn’t an issue add a good muzzle brake
On my AR rifle I just switched from a normal AR carrier that weighed 5.96 ounces for a Les Baer Ultra Lite (Bull Pucky) National match without the bolt assist serrations.
It weighed 9.65 ounces which is a huge increase. It really eased the recoil and smoothed every thing in the action down.
Second on the vltor a5 setup. That thing was a noticeable improvement over the carbine buffer. I’ve also used the a5 on a rifle length system, and it made a noticeable difference/improvement there too.
