Buffer question

I have a colt 6920 and am waiting on a sionics upper to replace the current upper. Everything other than the trigger in the colt is stock, am I going to need to replace the buffer going from a carbine to mid length shooting 77grs bullets? As it is right now my brass is ejecting at 2 o clock.

Thanks

Run the set up you have and see how it operates. Sionics’ barrels are generally gassed properly.
You might need to change to an H or H2 dependent upon the ammo.

It already has an H

H should work fine in a 16 middy

H is what I have used in both 16" and 14.5" middy, always ran fine for me. Until I switched my rifle to an A5 that is.

Yep…it sure does. I need more coffee…

Ok, i’ll wait and try it out. I’m really excited about the sionics upper. I hope it’s as accurate as they sound.

An “H” buffer is the minimum. Carbine buffers get tossed.

Carbine buffer works fine in a 16 middy too.

The holy grail is the A5 system. BCM or Vltor makes such offerings. Read and look into the A5. H or H2 will work fine, just not best.

For your current purpose, slap your new upper on your Colt and go shooting. Read up on the A5 for next time.

Magpul also makes an A5 length RE tube. “Enhanced Receiver Extension Tube - SR25/M110”. I like it and I use it. I like it bc it’s rarely out of stock. Has more stock positions (10), so you can fine tune a little there if you want. Finish and fit is always spot on. Very well made.

We build our standard midlength carbines with H buffers. You will be just fine.

Shot 6 through it today, ejection was right at 3 o’clock.
