Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derrenda said at a press conference last week that the department will be sending people to collect guns that belong to pistol permit holders who had died so “they don’t end up in the wrong hands.” The department will cross reference pistol permit holders with death records and the guns will be collected when possible, he said.
Good olé Buffalo… Erie county is heavily dem so this shouldn’t really surprise anyone. Nor should it surprise anyone that the most all the murders in buffalo are gang related and involve unregistered weapons anyway.
Its not exactly without precedent. Many counties in NY already send a few sheriff’s deputies to oneshome following a death to collect whatever pistols are not already co-registered to other persons.
This could end badly… the right distraught family member having recently lost a loved one now has to give up personal property to the gov. How long before this ends up in a shooting.
My cousin passed away a little over a year ago from a SCUBA accident. Very tragic for the family. He had several firearms, pistols and bold action rifles. His parents surrendered them to the police voluntarily. I almost wanted to scream…
Buffalo probably not. But in other counties its more efficient, few days. NYS pistol permits dont helo matters any. Now some sheriff’s offices will work with the family and a local dealer to get ownership transferred so nothing has to be destroyed.
once they do this sure next will be other things you know that car you registered well we need to take it OH that home well good bye ! OH your money sorry your dead can’t use it we need it
sadly it will be the chipping away at little things
