So I am new to the AR world. I have an M&P 15 that is flat top. I put on a set of MBUS sights to start with. What do you guys think of the BSA red dot for a beginner optic. Will it last a while. My biggest problem is finances.
A kid I shoot with had two fail on a 10/22. The reports for the Primary Arms aimpoint clones are much better, and the service is pretty good as well. Bear in mind, the clone red dots are only intended for plinking and not serious use. Even one of the employees of Primary Arms has gone out and stated that they feel they create a great product, they feel that their products do not replace an Aimpoint.

I had a BSA on my AR 15 and put thousands of rounds thru it and it worked perfect and still does…
A guy in a carbine course I just took had one. Close to the end of the first day, it stopped working. He said he had just bought it.
Recently I bought one of the BSAs to try on a Buckmark and then mounted it on my Tac Sol .22 upper just to see how it would work. It’s ok just for plinking, but has no riser so it takes a weird cheek weld to use on a carbine.
