Well…while I’m waiting for some parts to arrive for an AK project I’m
working on…I thought I’d pull out my 1941 Browning Auto-5 in
12-gauge and start looking it over and imagine what I might be able
to upgrade on this bad-boy just for fun.

I’ve had this SG for a loooooooong time and it’s a blast to shoot…
…but…I’m havin’ trouble trackin’ down any magazine extensions so
thats why I have not decided on final barrel length yet…

The original wood furniture is in GREAT condition but I do not hunt
now so maybe a little change is in order.

Any other A-5 owners out there? I’ve started to design some
replacement handguards for it but I keep changing the CAD
designs so often it’s making me a little bonkers.

I was following a thread over here I thought help me out…but it just
sort of died out…

I’ve had some people tell me that Remington 1000 or 11-87 parts
are “supposed” to work…but everytime I go to purchase something
a saleperson at a local shop will always tell me “NO…that won’t work
& we don’t have ANYTHING for the A5!”

SO…WTF?..:angry:…

I was looking a this laser right …but a rep from the company swore
the threads are different between the Browning and the Remington
magazine cap so I didn’t order it …YET…

…man…there has GOT to be a way to get this to work!

The only real robust sight mount I found is a scope mount on
picitiny rails…sort of wanted to get a small red-dot for fast CQB
target acquisition…I think this might work…

ANYWAY…any other Browning Auto-5 lovers out there?

Check out that thread…I’mworking on a full length handguard…but
we all know how thw A5 operates…thats my only problem so far!

Dude, seriously. You’ve got a classic there. Leave it alone. Go buy a 930 spx or something and just leave the A5 as it is.

Ya know… I’ve honestly been thinking that very same thing…

I figured that if I cannot find anything to mod this SG out… then
there is probably a good reason for it… …

Thanks for bringin’ me back to reality… besides…I’ve got a few
buddies that have been chompin’ at the bit just trying to pry this
thing out of my hands.

I hate to see it just sitting in a safe and not getting any exercise so
maybe I’ll look at some other SG options for me and see if I can find
the A5 a better home where it will get some more field-time…

I’ll look in to that 930 spx…really not sure what it is… …

I was at the Rockcastle 3-Gun and a guy was running his A5. The A5ran a bit better than he did that particular day.

As I recall the mag tube extensions are the same thread as with the 870 but an 870 is threaded much deeper-- or not deep enough, it’s been a while.

On the below Remington Model 11, I made and extension using the original mag tube cap. Front sight is from a FAL.
