Brief SHOT show scope report

We have much more detailed report coming but here’s a few highlights
We have a very experienced optical engineer writing up a comprehensive report and a ton of pics taken

I think Vortex is going to sell a ton of the 1-4 vipers
nice scope
everyone in our group liked it
Overall I really liked the Vortex stuff and the people at the booth
seemed genuinely intersted in feedback

the 1-4 Razor with HD and FFP reticle was nice but it’s a steep price tag and that’s entering a tough market…

The Preimer Reticles 1-8 was just bad to the bone

red dot to at 1x and transition into a mildot as you go up

that was just high lust factor!

Was surpised to see the S&B 1-8 have the ill reticle off center on both of their scopes… I realize it’s pre production models but seems like it would be better not to bring them or have them under glass

Checked out the Leupold 1.1-8 and though it was nice but for my personal needs the reticle was too much… I know it was under direction of some special ops guys of which of course I am not. So, their needs obviously drove the design and I am sure it works for them as needed.

Was happy to see Khales back in US distribution and they will have a US service center that will initially work on only the current line of scopes being imported as they need to have them ramped up on “their” product lines
I expressed concern over that and that they really need to get to supporting all Kahles products. I have one of their 3-10x50 Multizeros on my LTR 308 and love it

Spent some time at the Triicon booth and I have a TR24-3G and a TR20-2G and have owned a few Acogs, I like their stuff

Nothing new but it was great to be able to check most models out back to back
I have been interested lately in a TA44SG-10 and it was great to check out in person. I really want to get one in to run for a while on my 16" lightweight 6.8 which I use as a stalking hunting rifle

off to a much needed nap!

I am looking forward to all the reports, especially those regarding new Optics. I am putting together my build now and have everything except the Optic. I will wait until I see and read about all the new stuff before dropping my $$. I am fortunate, in that, I do not have a budget limit. My goal is to get the best of all worlds, or as relatively close as possible, but have quality to shoe for the cost.

What is the ETA of your report?

What reticle does the new S&B 1-8 have?

Thanks

Nick

Premier Introduces V8-1.1-8x24 CQB Tactical Scope

Winchester, VA. - Premier proudly announces the beginning of the CQB revolution with the introduction of new V8™ series tactical riflescope! This US built tactical riflescope features sophisticated German design and functionality in addition to unsurpassed European optical quality and performance.

“This scope represents the culmination of more than 63 years of experience providing custom sighting options for the tactical shooter in addition to their combined requests of today for a CQB scope designed to fit their needs” said Premier Reticles’ president, Chris Thomas. “Instead of the typical approach of most other optics manufacturers of modifying existing hunting products to kind of meet the tactical shooters needs, which requires them to settle for something less than adequate in most cases, we strive to build a product designed expressly for the specific task and need at hand!”

The V8 1.1-8x24 offers an 8x ratio magnification and field of view. It also boasts an innovative two focal plane (reticle & red dot) sighting system that makes engaging targets from 5ft to 500 yards as simple as a turn of the power selector and all without additional sighting devices or leaving a good shooting position. The automatic transition from long-range 1st focal plane illuminated Gen 2 CQB reticle to 2nd focal plane projected red dot takes place in the blink of an eye when the magnification selector is adjusted down below 3x. This Functionality allows the shooter to engage targets with both eyes open from 5ft to 50 yards on settings 1.1 to 3x or in traditional longer range shooting style from 50 to 500 yards when set from 3 to 8x.

The V8™ 1.1-8x24 uses Premier Reticles’ illuminated Gen 2 CQB reticle, with 11 brightness levels and a locking illumination dial for storage in the “Off” position. Designed with an off position between each intensity level and an automatic shut-off after 6 hours to preserve battery life, making it quick and easy to operate.

The tactical windage and elevation adjustments on the V8™ 1.1-8x24 also feature our unique Lever-Lock™ dial retention system for tool-less re-zeroing. The adjustments provide 0.1 milliradian (1cm) per click for a total of 17mrad/58moa elevation in one revolution of the Single Turn turret and 11mrad/38moa of windage.

Ocular adjustment range is -3 to +2.5 diopter and can be locked in place once set to the desired position with the use of a simple lock ring, ensuring any adjustment made for your vision will be kept no matter how rough the going gets.

Our V8™ 1.1-8x24 riflescope is based on a super rugged 34mm diameter one-piece main tube and constructed from 6061- T6 aircraft aluminum. All internal parts are precision machined to matching tolerances providing exacting performance, reliability and movement.

All Premier riflescopes come with a fully transferable lifetime warranty and are backed by more than six decades of customer satisfaction.

Key Features:

  • 8x ratio magnification and field of view
  • Illuminated reticle with 11 intensity settings and an “off” position between each setting. (1st three settings designed for use with Night Vision)
  • Locking Elevation and Windage adjustments
  • Unique 1st & 2nd focal plane sighting system with Auto switching at 3x
  • Patent pending Leverlock™ dial retention for tool-less windage and elevation re-zero

Sorry for bringing such a old thread back, but I am very interested in the scope thats discussed here and wish to get some new updates.

I seen the S&B 1-8 short dot discussion thread here and was very sold on it. Recently as I am doing more research, I came across the Premier Reticle V8 1.1-8 CQB Tactical scope. The features that it offers seems very unique (not sure if thats a good thing or not).

The ability to have a similar “red dot sight” feature when on low power and automatically switch to a mildot reticle on larger magnification pretty much just grabbed my attention. Of course the off switch between each illumination intensity also seems neat but not as needed.

The release date of this scope is going to be around the same time as the S&B 1-8 short dot and both priced around the same range, but why is there so little information and discussion around? I understand the level of quality that S&B produces, especially after reading a lot of the treads here, so my question is, is Premier Reticle on par with S&B? I have never had, used, or even seen any around the area where I am. So where would you guys put PR as far as glass, reticle, light transmission, durability, weather proof, etc?

I understand that the S&B short dot is going to be a true 1x scope, but the 1.1x I shot doesn’t seem to bother me that much.

Also, I haven’t been successful in finding a detailed spec sheet for either of the scope. The ones I found are not very detailed at all, more of “attraction” pdf. If anyone can point me to a link, I would really appreciate it. (I did google search, look at other forums, and looked at both company’s main website)

The easiest answer would be which one of the two would you choose? I most definitely don’t want to make this a “which is better” thread. Just want to know, for your intension of usage, which one will suit your need (more?).

Thanks in advance.

Reason for me asking is I was going to get a 2.5-10 NF LV reticle for the SCAR 17 I am planning to get soon. But I think 8x magnification should be more than enough for anything I plan to do with it. To have the 1.1 power to use for some close distance just seems like a big plus. And worst case, I will just use the 1-8 on another AR and get something else for the SCAR. Either way, I think I am very sold to obtain a 1-8 sometime down the road.

Premier makes a very good scope, and they recently got a USMC contract.

There isn’t a lot of info on these scopes because they are not out yet, and one of them is a German company. Im sure both makers have test models in the right hands to ensure they are releasing a quality product. The SB 1-8 has been delayed a year because they first versions were rushed out to compete in a contract, and they didn’t feel it was good enough to release.

Reticle is more or less user preference. Sure some offer more usability but it depends on your needs and preference. For instance Im not a fan of Horus reticles. Ive shot with them, and the grid pattern obscures too much FOV for me. I prefer a little more detailed mil dot like the Gen II which was developed by premier and used in the USMC models of the 3-12X50 SB PMII and a couple other models. I do like the looks of the reticles being offered with the SB 1-8X particularly the mil dot CC.

Thx for the response, makes sense.

After reading the thread on the Leupold, I am more sold on the Premier and S&B.
