Break-down bag for carbine?

Look at a baseball/software bag from a sporting goods store. You can get a full carbine length rifle in many of them. Get some foam and cut it out for the rifle of your choice.

I also like the sneaky bag, but just haven’t been willing to drop the coin for it.

I’m not up on current events around here, but I always wanted one of those iShot/SERT C3 cases. They were in and out of availability so many times, and always when I was unable to buy one.

I have one of their larger cases and love the quality.

I think a good idea to further “camo” a case is to add things to it like clip on water bottles etc.

I use a Tac-Force 26" bag, works well and doesn’t scream “Rifle”. Still not as descreet as some other bags, but it works for me.

Rifle stowed in bag.

Mayflower Quad shingle in outer pouch.

Rifle assembled

I was walking towards my local gun store recently and a passer by asked me what was in the case, I told him it was my Keyboard and stand, he stated that he thought it was something like that, cause it was too short to be a rifle.

Well the bag finally came in. I ordered it from LAPG which combined with a 10% coupon I had, offered the lowest price after shipping. Heres the link:http://www.lapolicegear.com/tactical-micro-drag-bag.html Unfortunately, LAPG didn’t bother to tell me that the item was back ordered, so I ended up waiting 5 weeks for delivery.

I’ve heard the arguments for cheap chi-com, airsoft, copies, blah blah, etc. I don’t really care. My patrol rifle is sheathed in an Eagle Industries soft case that gets drug around, thrown in the trunk of my CVPI, has been doused in same trunk by an errant fire extinguisher, etc. I’m very happy with how well its taken the beating over the 3 years i’ve owned it.

That being said, I got this new bag simply to tote the AK underfolder back and forth to the range. I wanted something that didn’t scream
GUN ask I walked out of my house to my car, but I’m also not too concerned with the whole discrete as a guitar or keyboard either. I think this bag will serve my purposes well.

The bag has molle webbing over nearly every square inch save the lid and bottom. stitching seems to be fine, there are no loose or uneven seams that my untrained eye can see. The entire exterior shell of the bag is Cordura (unknown what weight). The entire interior is nylon, but is the smooth shiny type. Sandwiched between these layers feels to be about 1/4 inch of stiff padding. The entire exterior of the bag is padded, except for the lid.

The bag also comes with a removable padded sleeve that bisects the compartment the whole length. The sleeve is held in place by Velcro that runs the length of the sleeve. The sleeve is also sectioned the whole length, so when inserted in the bag, there’s a total of 3 padded compartments, not just 2. Interior measurements are about 27x10x4 (ish).

As the bags padded, it holds its rectangular shape just fine. The padding also helps break up the outline of whatever is contained within.

The unpadded lid is attached by 4 side release buckles. At the opening of the bag is a storm flap that’s about 6-8 inches long. You roll this flap up, then buckle the lid down over top of it.

On the back side, there are 2 removable backpack straps. These straps can be tucked into a nearly full length pouch that has velcro closures at the top and bottom. I’m not a fan of the flaps as with the back pack straps deployed, the velcro flaps hang loose and dig into your back. There’s also a nylon shoulder strap that attaches to one of the sides of the bag via simple metal hooks. The metal buckles and tri-glides appear to be cheap pot metal. Unsure how long they’ll hold up.

Like I said, I got the bag to tote around my Polish Underfolder in the collapsed position. The gun with a 20 round magazine inserted fits in the bag just perfectly. It definitely wouldn’t fit with a 30 rounder inserted. The padding breaks up the outline of the firearm. I had originally planned to get some molle mag pouches for the exterior. Instead, I kept the sleeve inserted in the main compartment, and just dropped the mags in there. They’re separated from the gun and I’ve got the rifle with 20 rounder inserted, and 4 30 round mags all in the main compartment.

Anyway if i did this correctly, there should be some pics attached.

On a side note, I didn’t try to see how well this back would fit a broken down AR as mine is secured at work. If i feel really motivated, I’ll see what I can muster to get some info in that regard if requested.

thanks

edited to get the images embedded

Thanks for the review. I just ordered one on the hope that a folded Arsenal SLR-107 will fit (at an angle). It’s a little longer than your underfolder due to the muzzle break.

I use a fieldhockey bag to blend in with the sheeple. Neighbours only see a guy with a bag and toolbox (to carry my ammo and some odd parts) going from the house to the car.
Here’s a link to the review I did on the bag: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=29605

Here’s an option. It fits a bunch of stuff and in my case, even a rifle that isn’t broken down. I’m sure it would work for a broke down one as well.

What are the dimensions of that bag, and what is the OAL of that rifle? Is it a 7in upper?

I’ve got one of the castle rock bags and really like it…enough pockets to hold everything I’d need for a range trip (mags, ammo, bipod, custom fit earplugs, etc) and discrete enough so nobody would really know what’s in it. If you have large bulky ear muffs you might not be able to pack them in the bag though.

I got the bright blue version and before telling them what it is, have asked some of my friends what they thought the bag was. The most common answer is a bag for one of those folding camping chairs which is super common to see in the backseat or trunk of someone’s car.

That’s right up my alley. Exactly what I Imagined. If this is the one, I guess black will have to do. Tac-force product page says this comes with a pistol holder. Is that what holds your Eotech in the pic? How’s the overall durability of the case?

Sad that you feel the need to conceal your range days from your neighbors. I’ve actually noticed a steep decrease in my neighbors need to mind my business since they noticed that I shoot pretty frequently. And they now keep their little BeBe’s kids off my property. There really isn’t any concealing a Pelican 1700 case.

This is all fine with me since I apparently live next to Malcolm in the Middle. The raccoons have to stand on their hind legs to navigate through my neighbors front lawn, the grass is that high. Plus they actively feed raccoons. The more they stay the fuck away from me and my property, the happier I am.

That being said, I am trying out the BFG DAP bag and find it to be perfect for a quick run to the range. I’ve got mine in Ranger Green since I don’t really care about being made in my cul-de-sac.

in reply too: MookNW, I bought some double sided Velcro from Home Depot, I think it was marketed as Velcro Strapping, it comes in various lengths, I bought 30’ X 2" in a package, You just cut it to length and width. The Tac-Force case comes with two straps sewn length wise into the case itself which the Velcro slips under or around, I had to sew some Velcro strapping to the inside of the case to secure the Upper reciever. Fairly easy to do and works great for me. I Didn’t use the supplied pistol holster with this set up.

In reply to: Spamsammich. I personally don’t want my nieghbors to know the number and type of wepons I may have on site, sort of like putting a sign up in the front yard, “Get your guns here”.

Check out my Ruger SR556 in future post.

Here is a Bulldog case that I picked up for $25 at the local Gun show a couple of weeks ago, 29" long X 10" wide X 4" thick, lined with some soft fuzzy material that Velcro sticks too. Decided my Ruger SR556 needed a new home. The dividers are some 1/2" thick foam I had laying around and attached some sticky back Velcro to the bottom to keep in place. This type of case is designed to put the upper on one side of the divider and the lower on the other side w/ ammo, my over organizational psyche wouldn’t allow that to happen.

I even like the Blue color.

Sorry for the delay. Upper is an 8 inch LWRC PSD.

I’ll find the bags internal dimensions.

Snellkid, that is sweet. Does the foam stay in place ok? I assume it’s to keep the case spaced out around your gear. How’s the stitching around the grabs?

Both bags are real well made, heavy duty stitching, solid construction, they’ll take abuse, The tac Force has removable foam padding, the Bulldog case does not. I put the foam spacers in the bulldog case to protect the components, actually it’s not really needed cause the Velcro holds all the pieces very securely, just there in case I drop the case and don’t want the scope flopping around, just over causious. The foam around the edge of the case near the zipper is there to keep the bags shape and protect components.

You can do a google search for Tac Force Cases and Bulldog cases and find some good internet deals.

I posted a while back about the Bucket Boss http://www.coastaltool.com/a/ab/boss/bo06049.htm and promised pictures. I really like this bag because it fits my “style” better than any sport or musical instrument bag and the price is right!

These are not my pics but they show the bag pretty well.

^ that wins. I am going to order one right now. Thanks for posting that.

I just got mine in the mail. It is pretty awesome, fits my 16" upper well, I am quite happy with it.

edmotseiii,
I’m glad you like it. They lack a little padding but they have LOTS of space and I’ve yet to find anything that can beat it for “Discretion”! I’ve walked mine into hotels and never a blink from anyone.
