Break-down bag for carbine?

My problem: When going to the range, it is apparent to my neighbors that I am taking a rifle from my house-car , car-house 2-3 times a week. I’ve read a few threads about concealing range gear and whatnot, but the rifle is a bit more conspicuous. A broken down upper is like 24"? I think getting a case down under 28" and staying away from the tapered look would help alot. Something with internal straps to keep the upper/lower from bumping together. No camo or black.
Any thoughts or references to threads would be appreciated.

If the castle rock case doesnt look like a rifle bag, what does it look like?

I think the OP wants something that’s still functional as a rifle bag on the inside while being “discreet” on the outside. It can still look like a rifle case without the taper of the old school cases.

I like the Blue Force DAP case in this respect. Kinda looks like a rifle case only if you know the person carrying it owns guns and it comes in colors other than OD, Black and Coyote.

The bfg dap looks good too, but in the product page it says “available in mc only” …(multi-cam?)

I love mine. The only issues I could think of are:

  1. You gotta break the rifle down but that’s what I bought it for and that’s what you’re looking for so we’re the kind of people who won’t be bothered by that.
  2. You can fit plenty of mags in it but the stuff you shove into the non-mag pockets better be small or flat-ish because bulky stuff will really bulge out the bag–it’s compact which is good, but if you want big fat ear-pro, you’ll either have to deal with the bulge or bring it in a backpack separately.
  3. The tie-down straps and buckles are small so it can get tricky grabbing them and securing your gun if you’re got a lot of crap on it blocking the way. Not a big deal, but I wish the straps were on the side and not on the bottom or that they were velcro and not snap-buckle things. But there would be downsides to velcro, too. So trade-offs.

Something too small to hold a rifle. You don’t have to have a cover story for you bags. But it’s the side of a violin case or a small duffel or maybe a tool bag. And if you buy it in bright colors like red, blue or purple, it looks even less like a rifle bag. If you’re truly paranoid you should probably buy a custom cut-out guitar case or something. But if all you want is for your neighbors to see the bag and not think “RIFLE!” then you’re gtg with castle rock.

I’ve been looking for a stealthy breakdown bag for a while. My problem is I don’t look like the guitar, field hocky, baseball bat bag, etc. etc. etc. kind of guy but I do look like a carpenter. The funny thing is, I’ve been using a similar (RainBird) but smaller tool bag for my pistol for a couple of years. It’s been extreemly dourable and when it’s zipped shut NOBODY has ever guessed what’s in there.

I like my Sneaky Bag very much. For me it’s an SBR case, so no takedown necessary. The bottom outside pocket will also fit one of their mini shoulder bags which I think is a cool all around setup for bugging out pre-hurricane or similar.

I like the sneaky bags too. But let me check the math… $160+ vs. $29.50 = mucho ammo.

I just ordered one of these micro drag bags from LAPG. http://www.lapolicegear.com/tactical-micro-drag-bag.html
after doing some research, i found out its made by Condor. it has a padded sleeve divider inside to keep things from banging into each other. I bought it to carry around my underfolder AK. it should be here this week and i’ll post back about quality if anyones interested.

Another Go Bag user here… Fits my 11.5 with some supplemental first line stuff, 5 or 6 primary mags and a few extra secondary mags. Great way to have a lot of firepower on hand in an unobtrusive package.

I also have a LaRue discreet case which I like… hard to fit more than just a broken down 16"er with the dividers though if you have a lot of stuff that doesn’t come off easily (QD) (think AFGs, handstops, big lights, etc)
