Just checking out the Bravo Company website to make sure they were still out of stock :suicide2: , and noticed they no longer are showing the ion bonded BCG. Wonder if they’re going to stop making these?
It’s not on BCM Mfg.'s new website either
That would suck… I was just thinking about trying a BCG with some sort of coating for use in my suppressed gun. Hopefully they offer them again, or I’ll have to look at Fail Zero or Spikes NiB offerings. I’m sure they are good too, but I’ve never been let down by BCM’s products.
Darn it, I was waiting for them to become available again to order a set.
Buy a BCM BCG and have it coated. I believe WMD charges right at a $100 to coat them so the total price would be right around FZ’s price. I have had not trouble whatsoever out of my FZ BCG but at only 1000 rounds that doesn’t mean much of anything.
Just click the WMD site sponsor banner above if you want a coated BCG. Do a search here and it will explain who they are and where they came from.
I love my spikes NiB BCG, maybe bcm stopped makin ionbond because they are not so good
I have a FailZero carrier with Wonder Coat. To be honest, I’m not sure the Wonder Coat gives me any real advantage over a plain, parked carrier
That’s a bold assumption. Ionbond is a proven coating method. I think its more likely that BCM didn’t have enough demand to justify keeping them in inventory.
It’s a coincidence that I just sent an email to BCM asking about the very same thing. I stated that I was needing a new BCG and was waiting on the coated one but would settle for a standard. The reply was “maybe late 2011, but do not wait for them.” I LOVE BCM and I went ahead and ordered a DD one from them, but I’ll definitely get a BCM coated one if they come in.
I had 3 brand new BCM bcg’s that i just sent out for Ionbond coating. The cost was $65 each without shipping and took about about 6 weeks.
I have not used them yet. This might be an option for you
Ok, bit of a thread drift but I didn’t find it with a search and this thread seems as good a place as any. How thick are these NiB or Ionbond coatings and when applied to a bolt are the thick enough to affect headspace making go/no-go gauges a must?
You can buy an ARPERFORMANCE nickel boron carrier for $100-.It’s the same carrier and coating as FZ.
PWS makes a nice DI carrier that has a slick finish.
It’s my understanding that the Ionbond is microns thick.
I could have a faulty memory though.
Just curious, does anyone really see a flaw with the standard phosphated bolt group? I personally do not. I have run multiple suppressed uppers and have rum them hard in fullauto with the only maintenance being a wipe down with paper towels and application of lube (LaRue machine gunners lube). I just don’t find any shortcomings with the standard finish, as it wipes down for cleaning in this manner very easily.
So my question is this - has anyone truly had a failure with the standard bolt group that warrants the added expense of these “exotic” finishes such as ionbond, NiB, etc?
Personally I would not buy one of these BCG.
I would, however buy one of the SS410 uppers with the Ionbond.
I can’t stand shiny firearms…
I have a Spike’s NiB BCG, and I have found no advantage with it over a regular BCG. and after several thousand rounds, it isn’t as pretty anymore, even with Quib’s mineral spirit wonder bath and some hard scrubbing. I will never waste money on it again.
I have IonBond and standard carriers and while a standard carrier will smooth out eventually, the IonBond carriers are smooth from day one. The standard carriers sometimes get the phospahate worn off the bottom where it rides in the upper reciever. The Ionbond doesn’t wear out as far as I’ve seen. It definately isn’t a have to have, I just like it.
I can’t point to anything in as far as performance, except it just slides smoother, like butter. You’d better sound off that you like butter!
I like butter!!!
And my Ionbond BCM BCG. ![]()
