Just got back from the range to break in my brand new first ever SBR, and there were lots of FTL and one FTE. Pop in a mag, drop the bolt. First shot was always good. Some follow up shots I squeeze the trigger and nothing. I had one failure to eject, the rest were failures to load. Here’s what I’ve got:
The only change I made was swapping the h1 buffer for an h2 based on opinions from a previous thread I posted, though I tried the h1 as well and it didn’t matter, so the buffer doesn’t appear to be an issue.
Also happened using 3 different PMAGs, 2 of which were Gen 3 mags and the other a Gen2. Doesn’t appear to be a bad mag. I’m using Federal M193 ammo 55 grain like this: http://www.bulkammo.com/bulk-5-56x45-ammo-556x45mm55grfmjxm193fed-20 Never had an issue with that ammo in either of my colt 6920s.
I know the range officer and he was helpful trying to troubleshoot with me. His only ideas were:
1 - Possibly the ammo. Does an SBR prefer 62 grain m855 as opposed to the 55 grain I was shooting?
2 - Gas block - if it is not cycling enough to grab another round then perhaps I am somehow undergassed?
Appreciate any suggestions you may have on what to do.
Odd. That thing should run like a Singer sewing machine! My 10.3" pistol likes it all! No FTF, FTL issues ever! And I built it myself. You have two factory built pieces and are having issues… The gas block must be your issue… I’m assuming you tried different magazines, and still had the same problem.
Yep. I’m running the BCM complete BCG that came with the rifle when I ordered it. The entire rifle is BCM except for the SSA trigger, and obviously that is not the issue.
Rifle is already my favorite if I can just figured out what is causing this. I assume it must be the gas block, but want to exhaust everything else. My thought is to:
1 - clean it really good, which I just got done doing
2 - Take it to the range again and see if problem persists
3 - If it does, I guess I call BCM and tell them what is happening and maybe the offer to look at it for me?
This wasn’t one or two failures to load. It was probably a dozen or so failures out of 200 rounds. Enough that I don’t have confidence in the reliability of the rifle.

I never touched it and don’t plan on touching it, but it looks fine to me. I will call Bravo Monday and see what they suggest. One of the reasons I bought from them is their reputation for great service. I am sure they will make it right.
