It’s quite possible that on discovery of the POS in the boat, bunch of rnds were sent into the boat without knowing if he was armed or not. Claiming a two way “firefight” may have been premature… It wouldn’t be the first time nor the last time a known cop killer and general POS - who could have had a bomb with him ready to detonate, throw, etc, - has been terminated with extreme prejudice due to the (perceived or real) threat the person presents.
For example:
When asked why he and fellow SWAT members shot cop killer Angilo Freeland 68 times after finding him hiding in the woods, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd responded, “That’s all the bullets we had, or we would have shot him more”
Recent Dorner event, and so forth.
Me, I’m glad they did get one of them alive as valuable intel may come of it, so all good.
How he survived it in that small space is amazing to me, but perhaps the boat walls are thicker/tougher than we realize or the angle allowed the bullets to deflect over him. I don’t know.
There was a big ass motor in their way. It’s an inboard. Now they had two shooters on the roof of the shed that could have taken him out with one shot… but… that doesn’t scare the public into submission as easily. If he had a bomb they had already put themselves in harms way with knowledge. Yet they were called out to get out of line of fire.
Enough with all the chest-thumping, mingled with manly tears, about the dramatic end of the Marathon bombers’ reign of terror in Boston last week. From the press coverage, you’d think the entire city (which is actually rather small) rose up as one and smote two evil Chechens a stunning blow for truth, justice, liberty and the American Way. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Most likely the deductible on your home owners policy… which translates to you. I’m trying to figure if that guy is tagging holes in the garage. It looks like he is. It looks like two to three holes in the right glass. No wonder they told everybody to clear the area.
For whatever else we can glean from the photo (above), that appears to be/have been one very nice boat. No wonder the owner’s friend told an interviewer that the thing was the guy’s pride and joy. Hope they do right by the man; especially since they owe the entire capture event to him.
Police officials initially announced that officers had “exchanged gunfire” Friday evening with the surviving suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, as he hid in a boat in the backyard of a house in Watertown, Mass. Now several law enforcement officials say no gun was found in the boat, and officials say they are exploring what prompted officers to fire at Mr. Tsarnaev, who some feared was armed with explosives.
Paying for the damages would be the right thing to do…However, I would’nt be suprised in the least, if the boats owner ends up having to get a attorney and threating to sue, or sueing before they(LE) coughs up any money for damages…
He won’t take the money. They set a fund for him and had already got to $11K. He said all he lost was a boat… give it to the fund for the people that lost their limbs.
