Boresnake stuck in barrel

Yeah let us know. I will not be using a boresnake ever either. In fact… I get frustrated enough when a milspec cleaning patch gets wedged in there and I have to break out a guide rod to ram it back out. That rope stuff looks like a PITA.

haha - went back and saw that you’d suggested that already.

kyohte - what about a USGI steel jag instead of nylon? use a dremel to create the hook.

You said that the boresnake broke at the muzzle…

Do you have a flashider on the end of your barrel?

If so, would removing the FH give you enough purchase area to grab the boresnake and remove it?

Do you have pics that you can share with the rest of us? I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this issue. I’ve been using boresnakes for a very long time and this is the first time I have ever heard of this type of issue.

Did you use the correct size and was the boresnake dry (ie: no lube or cleaner on it)?

Get it out yet?

What about DEET? We’ve talked about solvents, but DEET is notorious for dissolving important plastic bits.

There are screw-in swag hooks for hanging plants the typically have a stud with a machine thread on one end (screws into the hook), probably 8-24, and a wood screw thread on the other. I don’t know what the machine thread size/pitch is but you might give one a try and see if you can thread the wood screw end into to bore snake enough to grab it. It will probably screw up the threads on your rod, so I would get a cheap one to try it out.
Or you might try a really long decking screw from the breach end and see if the head sticks out far enough to get hold of it.

I think you are screwed, I’ll give ya $50.00 bucks for the upper:lol:

Not sure how this happened, because all my boresnakes are more than long enough that I have part out of the muzzle and some still hanging out the breech.

Might be time to take it to a professional gunsmith, before you injure yourself.

Yeah… in addition… I’ve seen a guy use these silly things… and they just don’t have that much tension where you’d break one off in the barrel.

That’s what I was thinking so I tried it, and I have excess on both ends too?

I can’t believe the modified hook didn’t work?

$55 bid

Same here, which is why I was thinking the OP might have been using a pistol Boresnake instead of a rifle one.

I have been wondering the same thing. Minus the nylon pull cord, its still a good 6 inches on both sides.

I hope you get it resolved soon buddy.

I would be pretty bummed if that happened to mine:mad:

That’s what I was thinking. I’ll bid $60.

Is that long enough to keep you from getting sprayed when you open the bottle?

Did you get it out yet?

Not yet. I haven’t tried much in the past few days as it’s been a very busy week.

I did remove the flash hider and was able to grab the very small piece of the end with vice grips. I pulled a lot but only ended up shredding the little bit that was left sticking out.

Hopefully tomorrow I will get to try a few more things before lugging it off to a gunsmith on Saturday. If I remember, before I start I’ll take a few pictures.

I’ll take your $60. I have the broken piece with 22 stamped on the end.

I really don’t know what happened. My only guess is that the end somehow went in slightly folded and got stuck. I’m not sure I could replicated it if I tried.

Here are some pictures:
