I remember a while back (few years?) the Venom Tactical Bolton Front Sight Gas Blocks were said to have some instances of coming loose under extended use.
Does anyone know if there’s been any design changes since then?
I’m looking to get this installed on a rifle, but I’m not sure if I should just either look for the Krebs version or just buy the Bulgarian one from KVAR.
Cost isn’t an issue; I want piece of mind that it will work. It will also be installed by a gunsmith, so ease of installation isn’t really something I’m concerned with. I just want to make sure it is up to par with the original Russian, Bulgarian, etc. production Front Sight Gas Blocks.
If installed correctly the Bolton block won’t go anywhere. RD showed some examples of rifles with them installed getting tons of abuse and not budging.
That said remember it is not “adjustable” for elevation. You just have to file the front post down. It is windage adjustable.
When I talked to Jim @ RD about it he said all the ones they got back that came loose had been uninstalled and then reinstalled incorrectly. The new gen of the Bolton allows for you to pin it. This is how I have mine set up.
A clamp on gas block makes me nervous and filing a front sight to zero just blows my mind. My RD rifle wears a Krebs block. Pinned and adjustable for elevation.
OP, I would add since RD uses this as their goto gas block on their top of the line rifles and has for years, they are solid. Jim thinks they are best option on the market.
