How common is this in the M16 platform?
I understand there are examples of bolts breaking in half at the cam hole but what about lugs breaking off? I’ve seen examples but the subject seems to be off the radar.
If this is a problem, even if it’s a long term one, couldn’t it be solved with the introduction of a triangular bolt like the one used in the barrett 50cal rifles? I’m pretty sure the australian leader dynamics MK-5 rifle used an ar18 style system with a triangular 3-lug bolt as well, instead of the 7-lug bolt.
