This new AR i’ve built seems to be haveing problem holding the bolt open after the last shot. Its a Stag arms lower I put the Mic’s on the section that fits down into the Receiver its seems the bolt hold open installed in my lower is thicker .1505 than the bolt hold open in my other 2 AR’s witch work fine .1460 What is the correct dimenstion? I hate to order another without know for sure it will work. Anyone have any ideas?
If not firing and you stick an empty mag into the lower and pull the charging handle all the way to the rear does the bolt lock open?
If yes it locks back the gun is short stroking which can be caused by a few things.
on a empty mag, even manually pulled to the rear I can see its not coming up far enough Im not sure if the part is out of spec or the Receiver may be out of spec.
I’d love to find a place that list dimenstions for parts and Receivers online blueprints or something like that.
I was also thinking maybe that spring that fits down into the receiver perhaps did’nt go in deep enough It was a real PITA to get it down in…
This feature is overrated so don’t worry about it.

Have you used more than one magazine? if not try another as the folower my not be holding the bolt open.
i hope this was not a serious post.
also, be sure you installed the spring/detent correctly behind the bolt catch…and that you used the correct spring.
the bolt catch spring and the fire control group disconnecter spring sometimes get confused because they are of “similar” dimensions.
also, without the detent at the end of the spring, it may lack enough force to correctly actuate the catch.
It was meant to be a little funny, but was actually being honest.
The lack of a bolt hold open feature, next stopped the AK from killing millions of people. ![]()

Do you have a GOOD AR to compare it to?
If so check the movement and tension of the bolt catch on the good gun by feel. The build could be binding or the roll pin could be holding the catch against one side of the receiver notch… thus restricting its movement.
true, but the AK can also be charged without even breaking the cheekweld. apples and oranges.
Really? I was never taught that way.
The simple fact is that in a gun fight, the shooter will NEVER KNOW that the bolt has locked back. So NOT having this feature is really not a big deal.

Mainly because I’ve spent about $1400 on this AR I’d kinda like everything to work right. While I’ve never been in a actual gunfight, I can tell the differance when the Bolt locks back differant feel, differant sound. But I’d proably never notice if some ground hogs were suddenly shooting back at me… thanks for the tips guys I’ll work on this tonight the hogs are out in force…
Under stress (like someone shooting at you), you will never feel or hear your bolt lock back.
I do understand that it is a feature of the AR and it should work.

ARin Nailed it wrong spring so I proably also have the wrong spring under the disconnector, That might also explain why I have a really sweet trigger pull I think I’ll leave that alone…
It does help to correctly assemble the lower. I guess C4IGrant and I assumed too much! ![]()
blitzking you MURDERER !!! LMAO !!! my buddy has a video of him shooting praire dogs - i nearly piss myself every time i watch it - i would guess its very similar ![]()
If its only a sport gun and wont be used for any SD situation you could probably leave it but I would use the correct spring if there is a remote chance that you may need it in a real situation.
