Bolt/ Extractor problem

I did a few searchs, forgive me if my terms aren’t the greatest. I’ve got a fairly new S & W m4, stock. It only has a few hundred rounds through it.

Is it normal for when I have a round in a mag and pull back the charging handle and attempt to chamber a round and the bolt assembly does not seat properly? I isolated it down to the extractor not springing enough to go over the lip on case of the bullet. If I pull the charging handle back and lock in to the rear position of the bolt and release the bolt with the lever on the side the bolt assy will seat properly and allow me to fire not having any problems.

I tried moving the extractor with a screw driver and I can’t seem to get it to move at all. Please help. I just don’t think this is normal.

First, quit dicking with your extractor with a screwdriver. The spring and insert is strong and you are just going to fuck up your extractor by either gouging the face or maybe even breaking the hook.

Anyway, it sounds like you just are not pulling the charging handle all the way to the rear or you are not letting go of it to allow it to slam home but instead you are holding the handle as the bolt returns to battery.

That is correct sir. I just thought i’ve done that before and it worked. So your saying I really don’t have a problem? Obviously i’m not shooting this gun enough .

No problems, bud. You are GTG. Pull the charging handle and let go.
