bolt catch spring (plunger is stuck)

Hello,

Okay, so how common is it to toss a bolt catch spring? A break in the weather got me to the range and at the end of the day (only 100 rounds) I pull back the charging handle to release the bolt catch and send the bolt home and nadda. Oh well but… dammit.

Thanks.

Okay, so the plunger is stuck and I can’t get it out. Any advice?

Do you have any Kroil or other penetrating oil? I’d try a drop, let it sit and then start tapping the lower with a dead fall mallet. You should be able to pop it out, inertia is your friend.

A dead fall hammer as well as a nice small brass hammer for my guns are two things I don’t have. I do have a brass hammer but when used for firearms it feels like a sledge…

Anyway. Rubber mallet and penetrating oil did nothing so I ended up using an ez-out to sorta deburr the spring well while simultaneously pushing in the plunger as far as it could go and out it popped. All is well now.

Thanks.

Drop the lower in the freezer. See if the differences in contraction will work for you.

ETA: Guess I’m too late.
