Just a curiosity question…
Has anyone ever had a bolt catch pin slide out from recoil? I recently installed a roll style pin on my new lower (Tactical Innovation BDX). While I had to tap the pin in, it didn’t take much effort like I thought. I used light taps with the handle of a screwdriver and a punch.
I have installed quite a few and they usually do not go in real easy. Could you have used the wrong roll pin? It is possible that you lower is not within spec. Not saying it is…just that those pins usually take a little to get them in. The one time I saw one come out was when someone re-used the old roll pin.
those things can be a real pain to get in. if it was that easy it could be the wrong pin. go next size up.
I used the proper pin. Let me clarify, it was a PITA to get started but once it was in, it was easy with taps. The roll pin was from RRA. I guess “light taps” is subjective.
Most usually need several solid smacks with the punch and hammer. The only ones I’ve seen go in easy were the very worn guns used in armorer classes.
Now I’m wondering if that’s the nature of a coil style roll pin. It seems that it’s more forgiving going in compared to a split roll pin.
I had one from a lower parts kit that went in fairly easily, once it got started. Shifted on me, so secured it with locktite. When I went with a Magpul BAD, I changed out the bolt catch and roll pin, using Grant’s parts just to be safe, and sure enough, his roll pin took real whacks to seat properly, which lead me to believe that the “parts kit” roll pin was slightly undersized, or more easily compressed than Grant’s.
