I don’t know if this has been posted before, but… half way through this video is an M16 3 round burst. You can see a little bit of what bolt bounce looks like. It doesn’t hurt the function in this gun, but you can get an idea of how it could be a problem if it were worse.
Will a new bolt bounce like that? Or is that one a little more for wear?
Nice, wondered what that looked like.
I find high speed photography fascinating.
Cool video. ![]()
I’d guess that every one of our ARs does that to some extent. That looks to be a Rifle Buffered, Rifle gas system… which would probably be the smoothest running combo possible. Most of our guns probably don’t run nearly that smooth.
Same here.
I want to see a Spike’s buffer with the high speed video.
A bit off topic but I found it fascinating watching the gases react to the round exiting the barrel.
It would be very cool to see one carbean upper run with buffers from carbine to H3.
I like it
There’s another high speed video of someone shooting a Taurus 45 auto pistol. It’s a great illustration of flinching. If the guy had any brains, he wouldn’t have posted a high speed video of his piss poor pistol skills. ![]()
I found it interesting to see the Beretta’s slide start to move before the bullet exited the barrel.
Great video!
Watching it made me think: would it be better for the gas holes in the bolt carrier to to be drilled at an angle, so that the gas would blow forward?
Probably wouldn’t make that much of a difference, since most of the gas that affects the user comes out from the charging handle anyway…
Thanks for the video.
Interesting to see the two very distinct phases of recoil: with the first impulse coming at the ignition of the round and the second coming when the buffer reaches the end of its rearward travel in the receiver extension. I know this kind of thing is discussed around here, but it’s always interesting to see in action.
In addition to seeing the effect of different buffers, I’d be very curious to see a brake in action with the AR. I’d be interested to know the timing of when the brake is introducing most of its energy relative to the rest of the cycle.
I noticed that too, was curious how that may effect the accuracy
Maybe it was a Taurus. ![]()
As a noob, what am I looking at here?
The fact that the carriers is going too far to the rear?
Holy thread resurrection batman!
Here is a decent video of middys and carbines testing bolt bounce with different buffers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=575Q0O41u5s
I only resurrected it because someone today in a current thread mentioned bolt bounce and I had no idea what it was. So I “searched.”
Well, after looking over some more, I think I see what it is now.
The carrier rebounding before lockup, right?
How big of a deal is it?
Rifle buffer FTW
