Bohica Arms uppers

I was looking around for some .50 options and came across Bohica Arms.

Does anyone have any experience with this company and their uppers?

Accuracy would be my main concern, but a dedicated .50 bolt action is going to bust my wallet and I can just use my existing lower. So can anyone attest to their reliability, usability, accuracy, and the build quality?

Thanks.

I have experience with thier company and thier product as I was one of those guys on the waiting list as february 08.
Chris Rosequist is an awesome guy who stands by his product and his company. He has undergone many changes over the past couple years in order to put out a quality workhorse upper for those desiring to bang with the big boys… while keeping things economical and not breaking the bank.
He actually re-tooled his shop so he could machine all the parts himself which gave birth to the MKIII.
I wont get into a long drawn out story about all the things he did for me and others to get me squared away. Lets just say he is a top notch guy that is making it his business to put .50s’ in the hands of guys that otherwise couldnt afford it.
It his passion and not about making money or making a name for himself.

I cant attest to thier “reliability” since I have not fired enough rounds through mine to say its utterly reliable. I have only put down 25 rounds of 695gr ap cartridges. I can say that there arent a whole lot of moving parts to assembly and take down is fairly easy… I can dissassemble the whole upper aside from taking the barrel off the receiver… The bolt is easily serviced in the field as well. I can access and replace the firing pin in less than a minute.
Its a pretty simple and basic design.
The bipod it comes with is worth far more than he charges and can take any beating you can give it…
The muzzle break is absolutely awesome and does a considerable job reducing recoil and flash signature…

Accuracy? Well lets just say its minute of man at distances to 500yds, which is about as far as I have been able to walk it out on a 1-4x24 scope.
I have only shot at granite rocks since there isnt much to shoot this thing at where I go.
I do know of a user who has taken his to 1000 yd comps and did an outstanding job with it… He goes by KD185…

I just took mine out again yesterday and almost blew a granite rock the size of a truck in half with repeated armor piercing rounds…
I love this upper and wouldnt consider parting with it for anything…
What I love most is the fact that it only cost me a grand to get into the “fifty club” and bang with the big boys.

Thank you, that was exactly the kind of post I was looking for.

It seems like a pretty good deal, and the fact that I could get into the “fifty club” without selling my soul was exactly why I was looking at it. I would definitely plan on bringing this to a 1000 yd. range, and if someone did just dandy in a competition with it, I’m sure the uppers accuracy will be just fine for me.

In response to the reliability - I myself wouldn’t be able to feed a .50 enough to get into the 1000’s count anytime soon, I just meant have you had any issues with it in general.

I saw that you have a quad rail on your rig, did that come stock on your upper, or is it fairly easy to switch out handguards?

Another question: I see that you are running a rifle lower, do you have any experience with a carbine lower and collapsible stocks?

Thanks again

I am glad my post was adequate enough to get you started.

You are right… IMHO, on a rig like that 100 rounds is enough to brag about the …considering the violent magic that happens in that upper and continues downrange to the target(also considereing people have had to go to the hospital after thier first shot behind one of these and if you get one and look in the manual you will see what I mean)… One shot on a hard material target is enought to make your day…especially once that energy transfers through your body the first time and you look up in time to see your target explode…
Competition of course will bring a higher round count but the grouping being done at 1k with these rigs is considerably impressive…especially for the price tag.
A link below is what a Bohica owner did his first time @ 1000 yds… Sub 9" groups at 1K…

No issues really aside from what was attributed to some really HOT handloads…
If anything breaks it will be replaced and knowing how Chris works , possibly two fold(been known to send suprises aka extra parts)

As far as the handguard…its an aftermarket YHM… the stock one is a breeze to take off and all that needs to be done it unscrew the bottom rail and the muzzle break(3 allen bolts) then slide on the new handguard with jamb nut and tighten… the barrel is purposely threaded on the outside for this …

I highly recommend a fixed rifle stock…no matter who or what, you do not want your stock collapsing behind that recoil and letting the rig hit you in the face… nothing I have typed is more important than that factor. A magpul UBR may work but what if it doesnt???
He also has a modified bolt catch that is a must since the upper is too beefy to accomodate a standard bolt catch. Although you can take a dremel to the rear of the paddle on the bolt catch and make a standard one fit(done it myself)…
You also want to use a wolff heavy hammer spring to ensure you ignite those heavy duty primers.
There is no need for a buffer or spring since the bolt uses the receiver extension tube to operate in. So, you can take your standard lower and take out the buffer and spring, then slap this big guy on and you are ready to rip… provided the bolt catch and hammer spring are in order…

They do offer a steel receiver extension and are coming out with a new steel stock similar to the ace arfx…
Lots of great things coming from that “one man army” @ Bohica …

Of course, If I end up pursuing this I’ll be contacting Him myself, but do you know off of the top of your head whether or not he provides a left hand version?

This isn’t really a huge issue after having to familiarize myself with many right hand bolt actions, but if a lefty version is possible I would have to consider buying one right now! Shooting with my natural side feels so much better and not having any experience with the .50, I would like to start out comfortable.

edit: Oh and I would be running a PRS on this rig, I have an extra handy from my last dmr.

Dont know if he offers one… BUT… I am sure his new semi auto .50 thats coming out will allieviate any “natural side” woes…

The beautiful thing is, Chris machines his own parts so I am sure he can accomodate your left hand needs… its a single shot bolt action so I dont think it would be rocket science to switch the receiver and bolt to the left side…
Ask him, but dont be suprised if he says " I CAN DO THAT"…

Lots of guys runnign a PRS… so many, they made a recoil pad specifically for it…ask him about that too…
Excellent stock choice BTW
