"Blues Brothers" movie questions (answer not in film)

This was just some stupid questions that popped in my head the other day:

We know why Jake Blues was in Joliet prison.

He robbed a gas station to get money to pay the band. He served three years for it.

Here are the questions:

-Do you think he used a gun?

I’m guessing no. Faked having a gun? Had a fake gun? Some other weapon?

-Do you think he spend more than 5 minutes planning it?

I’m gonna guess “no”. He had a fake gun, faked having a gun, or had another weapon, needed the money, and on the fly decided to rob the place.

-How did he get caught?

I have a feeling he was on foot. Was he on foot? Perhaps the gas station owner or clerk pulled a gun on him? Owner or clerk and perhaps others jumped him when it was obvious he had no gun or a fake gun or some other useless weapon?

Maybe he got the money but was quickly picked up by the Police? Or recognized and the cops went to where he was staying?

Any ideas?

He faked being a gasoline inspector, and he got the cashier to go out and look at the verification stickers on the pumps, he reached in and took the money out of the till. Unfortunately the store owners daughter was there, and he started hitting on her, and the police came.

Unfortunately I was a few years too young to be an extra in the movie. They filmed a mall scene at a nearby mall. A lot of people got part-time gigs is extras.

You obviously put more thought into that than the writers did. The mall scene was 80% of the film, one of the greatest things ever filmed.

“Disco pants and haircuts, this mall has everything.”

Didn’t thew blow up the gas station and that was edited out?

Very plausible!

Nice one!

Who could forget Carrie Fisher and her SP-1?

She went full stormtrooper with her shooting there.

And rocket launchers. I guess in Chicago you really can get military hardware on the streets.

They blew up an old gas station during the filming of the movie, I was there, those scenes were never in the movie, but I thought I saw them later in a Directors Cut.
I was living in Naperville at the time, which was where the gas station was.

Trying to recall which network wouldn’t show Elwood cooking the elevator control panel. Mall chase, bombings, and everything else was ok except tampering with the elevator.

This is why I buy DVDs, networks can FRO and keep their 20 minute blocks of annoying commercials.
