Bloomberg Says Interpretation of Constitution Will ‘Have to Change’ After Bombing

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday the country’s interpretation of the Constitution will “have to change” to allow for greater security to stave off future attacks.

“The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry,” Mr. Bloomberg said during a press conference in Midtown. “But we live in a complex word where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”

Mr. Bloomberg, who has come under fire for the N.Y.P.D.’s monitoring of Muslim communities and other aggressive tactics, said the rest of the country needs to learn from the attacks.

“Look, we live in a very dangerous world. We know there are people who want to take away our freedoms. New Yorkers probably know that as much if not more than anybody else after the terrible tragedy of 9/11,” he said.

“We have to understand that in the world going forward, we’re going to have more cameras and that kind of stuff. That’s good in some sense, but it’s different from what we are used to,” he said.

The mayor pointed to the gun debate and noted the courts have allowed for increasingly stringent regulations in response to ever-more powerful weapons.

“Clearly the Supreme Court has recognized that you have to have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and what it applies to and reasonable gun laws … Here we’re going to to have to live with reasonable levels of security,” he said, pointing to the use of magnetometers to catch weapons in city schools.

“It really says something bad about us that we have to do it. But our obligation first and foremost is to keep our kids safe in the schools; first and foremost, to keep you safe if you go to a sporting event; first and foremost is to keep you safe if you walk down the streets or go into our parks,” he said. “We cannot let the terrorists put us in a situation where we can’t do those things. And the ways to do that is to provide what we think is an appropriate level of protection.”

Still, Mr. Bloomberg argued the attacks shouldn’t be used as an excuse to persecute certain religions or groups.

“What we cant do is let the protection get in the way of us enjoying our freedoms,” he said. “You still want to let people practice their religion, no matter what that religion is. And I think one of the great dangers here is going and categorizing anybody from one religion as a terrorist. That’s not true … That would let the terrorists win. That’s what they want us to do.”

Nanny Bloomberg is at it again, apparently when you’re the mayor of a city you get to dictate to the nation what they’re going to have to expect.

The irony is that he’s telling us that there are people out there who want to take away our freedoms. Someone needs to hold up a mirror at a press conference and point out that he’s one of the main culprits.

This clown needs to stop breathing sooner rather than later.

I agree. I am so glad I live in the sticks. I do not understand how other people wish to be lead and their damn hands held at every turn in life.

I think we should ban big cities. People need to learn how to live on their own again.

You basically nailed exactly how I feel. The shitty part is those big cities are the ones ruining the nation, as one could see in the prior election.

True, but they breed.

I honestly hate that man.

There are people that I dislike, but very few that I actually hate.

He is one of them.

It is a sad state of affairs in that the people of this country haven’t run him out of town on a rail for just some of the statements he has made, much less actions he has taken/directed.:frowning:

I so hope one day he gets caught in some of undoubtedly underhanded financial dealings and gets brought down to the “Average Joe” level and has to live like the rest of us “peasants”.

It’s not just him but how many Republicans vote for NDAA, they passed CISPA in the House, and of course the Patriot Act. Bush was president while the NSA was illegally listening in on phone calls. One of the top guys at the NSA quit, and said what they are doing is illegal. Republicans signed off on the huge NSA datacenter in Utah.

Doesn’t really matter who it is these days. Not many in Congress go against this police state they have built. Grahamnesty is going out there ready to ship Americans off to Gitmo, torture people, and hold them indefinably. The Constitution is under attack by both sides very heavily.

I agree this an interesting time in our country. It’s not just Bloomberg. Washington Times reported there is a bill to implement biometric ID cards that will be mandatory for work in the US being proposed right now. Amazing how these events just all seem to coincide and so many agendas collide conveniently…

Here is the article:

This is an excellent post!

This is what many people in this country want. They want security or at least the feeling of security rather than their liberty. They would rather a person get paid to protect them than protect themselves. If most people in this country were able to hide in their homes and never have to leave it, they would. It appears that real life is too much for them.

We have become a weak nation.

Even other politicians think he is a loon.

LOL gotta love Brewer…

I do think we need to reinterpret it. Starting with his rights. I say they need to be removed.

Agreed. I just hate him.

Requiring those on the dole to be on birth control or making birth control free and easier to get would help with this.

Funny how the same thing that is happening is the same thing our founding fathers warned against and said would inevitably destroy America from within if left unchecked.

I’d prefer there was no “dole” for them to be on in the first place.

Going back pre-new deal, if you were a worthless fuckup you’d better have family or friends or a church or someone in your life willing to throw you a bone and we were a better nation for it. Natural selection can & will work if we let it.

We’ve raised entire generations that rely on the security of knowing that Uncle Sugar has their back if they loose that job or can’t make rent. If worthless fucks starved in the cold because of their actions & choices there would be less worthless fucks. I promise.

Typical of this billionaire elitist and his agenda. Just look at what his money did to CO.

Bloomberg is a shitstain waiting to spread himself to everyone else’s underwear.

He is a man who wants to be king. A true evil. A true tyrant.

Of course but one step at a time.
