Sorry if repost, (CNN) – Michael Bloomberg is investing a chunk of his personal fortune to minimize the influence of the National Rifle Association.
The former New York City mayor pledged $50 million to his new group Everytown for Gun Safety, an umbrella organization for his two other gun control groups: Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. It aims to make the political climate more supportive of gun control.
The new organization plans to compete against the NRA by adopting its playbook. The NRA has built an impressive and effective organization that touts millions of members, a robust lobbying organization and a massive campaign arm. http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/15/us/bloomberg-gun-safety-initiative/
I really wish some scandal would surface or something to discredit this pos
I tried to watch a youtube video today of Pat McNamara and there was a friggin "Everytown for Gun safety " ad before the video started
“I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”
Not going to get into a religious debate, but there is that parable about the rich guy and a camel going through an eye of a needle. Me thinks he never read it/comprehended it.
Americans spend about 16 million a day on guns and ammo. But thats not really relevant here, the real question is how much does the NRA have to fight back with? Now is probably a good time for us to donate to the NRA and skip on that latest gun widget we wanted.
You’ll notice how not one of these people like Bloomberg or Rahm Emanuel or Swinestein ever address their cadre of armed security. You give up your armed guards. Then we’ll see how committed you are to your own B.S.
When Hizzoner reached into his pocket to pull out a spare $50 mil to jump-start his latest rights-abrogating enterprise, the miserably monikered Everytown for Gun Safety, he apparently didn’t spend much cash on a competent social media team. The heaven-bound former mayor made the faux pas of announcing his new “grassroots” anti-gun holding company before he’d tied up all of the social media outlets under the new org’s name. Oops.
Pretty sure their stance is that they wouldn’t need armed security if it weren’t for all them crazy gun owners. They take those that we ourselves often despise most and use them against us.
Take away all them crazy gun owners and they’ll still want - and still have - their armed security. More likely, their stance is that they are individually important to the security of society and therefore deserve and need to have armed security.
(What a far cry we are from TR out-walking his (by today’s standards tiny) SS detail and accidentally letting his pistol fall out of his suit in DC while serving as president.)
Yep, if they want to convince me, let THEM live for a year on their own in a working class area of any major city. Go live among the people you would disarm and then tell me about it.
Same ****ing do gooders who want to rescue us from soda. If he wants to do something positive with his money, he should look into the whole epidemic of kids being diagnosed with bullshit conditions and medicated so that parents and teachers don’t have to deal with the crap the average 12 year old used to pull. That would be money better spent than worrying about if those same kids can get a 32 ounce beverage or not. Might even solve some “gun violence” issues in the process.
After all he has done and now this and to think people (some here) still think that he the others in the disarmament movement are really doing all this in the name of keeping people safe.
Beware of the bee with honey in his mouth for he has a stinger on his ass.
$50 million is a drop in the bucket needed to beat the NRA. The NRA is probably licking it’s lips at this announcement by Bloomberg. They couldn’t have come up with a better fundraising strategy.
All depends on what you consider “spends” to be. The NRA spent $231 million last year. Yes, some if goes to other things than political contributions and lobbying, but every dime the NRA spends outside of administration can be considered lobbying money towards the general public.
While the NRA Foundation and the Friends of NRA raise money for the shooting sports, education, and ranges, but not politics… we raised netted over $20 million last year on our own. I still consider all that money to be lobbying to the public because we are supporting positive aspects of firearms without getting tangled in the web of politics.
