Blind Pin job gone wrong

I had a friend blind pin a few flash hiders for me and one job went terribly wrong. He drilled into the bore and now I think he FUBARed the barrel.

The barrel is a 14.5" M4 style barrel and a Phantom Brake was being installed. Will this barrel shoot or do I need to cut it back have it threaded again?

It’s pretty much trashed now. You can cut it to a 10.5" or 12.5" SBR barrel and open up the gas port.

what gotm4 said.

its a good reason to SBR it :stuck_out_tongue:

I haven’t fired it, but wasn’t sure if the hole would affect the accuracy since its so close to where the rifling ends. I would imagine that it would foul up during firing, but wasn’t sure if it was salvageable.

Yeah. The last part of the barrel tends to be an important part of how accurately the bullet flys.

Why would you let an imbecile like this hack on your guns?

just pack it full of JB weld and shoot it smooth.

just kidding. you better send me the barrel for disposal.

If you SBR it to 12.5", you’re less likely to have to open up the gas port, from what I’ve heard.

I hope it was a CMMG barrel at least.

Please don’t say it was a good barrel.

I’ve had him “hack” on my guns for about 15 years…this was the very first FUBAR he has ever had. A tough lesson for both of us, but I’m sure we won’t let it happen again.

I plan on shooting it and if it doesn’t run, then I will send it to ADCO for a cut down to 11.5".

Bushmaster 1/7 M4 barrel…not a CMMG.

oh… well it might even shoot straighter now

If it was my barrel I would shoot it first and see how it groups.

Stephen

I’ve had some really good shooting Bushmaster barrels.

I’d sell it at a steep discount to someone with an SBR. Or pay to have it cut down and then sell it to an SBR owner.

I’m building an AR pistol…might consider it.

well if it his mistake has he not offered to replace ?If I Fubar’ed someone barrel I would replace it.I am sure it was a honest mistake ,But I would still expect it to be replace just my.02 Good Luck

It was an honest mistake and he did offer to replace the barrel, but I told him no. He was doing me a favor and it went bad. No foul there, but I will shoot it and see how it turns out. If it doesn’t run, I’ll have ADCO cut it down for me.

I say live an learn.

Good attitude to have !!Live and learn

Please post the results from the range when you get a chance im interested to see what effect this is going to have.

K9,
While not maybe the ideal option, you could cut it to 13.7 and put a pig on it. I know that many find this type of mod useless but John has been selling a ton of them like this. I believe the pig weighs some where in the 8oz range. Not sure what 2.4 inches of barrel and a flash hider weigh but it might not be too bad. Just an idea to keep from having to go the SBR route…

This is what I would do, in fact if you want to sell it them shoot me a PM.
