While I love the classic look of a blued Colt with a nice set of ivory stocks on it and hard chrome still remains my favorite finish for a carry gun, the traditional two-tone of a hard chromed frame underneath a blued slide is likely my overall favorite finish combination.
This gun is for a very patient customer who is quite active in the shooting sports. He and I have shared a ranged deck a couple of times and it’s always fun to build a guns for him because knows what he wants and needs on a pistol but still allows me the freedom to do what I do.
The base gun is a new Series 70 Colt that got a weld-up frame and slide fit, Kart barrel fit to an EGW barrel bushing and slide stop, an EGW grip safety swinging on a Wilson Combat Bulletproof ambi-safety, and a Wilson Combat Bulletproof mag-well. The gun is hand checkered at 30lpi with the bottom of the trigger guard being done at 40lpi, the slide is flattened and serrated, and the rear sight is a re-profiled Heinie matted to our Gold Line front sight. Add in a ball-cut slide finished to a 600 grit polish, a bit of matte hard chrome on the frame, and a set of VZ double diamond stocks and poof… a classic two-tone gun is born!
