Asked this on another forum, didnt really get any responses from people who have had experience with this…wondering if it will be a problem?
(and ran a search here) hope this is in the right forum…
Harris bipod, AAC three prong…didnt know if it would damage the bipod or the rubber bases…More than likely it wont be shot much like this…but…who knows, and if i dont have to remove it…id rather not…
Reason I as is because im running a 13.2 Larue rail on a 16" barrel, didnt want to mount it super far back on rail if i dont have to…
if I understand this, you are asking if positioning the bipod at the end of the rail directly under the FH would harm the bipod??? I don’t see why it would. my light lives right at the muzzle on my pistols and a couple ARs and has never suffered any damage…
you mention that you don’t want to put the bipod far back. you should know that positioning it far forward can help with angular deviation but may not be in the best spot for harmonic stability.
receivers flex and barrels vibrate when shot. the worst can look like a garden hose when you grab one end and shake it. a FF rail attached to the receiver is part of the system.
assuming you are looking for the most precision possible, support at some random point along the rail will produce better precision/accuracy with a given rifle/load combination. it may or may not coincide with the furthest position forward. it will be up to you to determine where the “sweetspot” for support is…
some guns don’t care where they’re supported, some do. sometimes the difference in placement can be dramatic. or maybe the difference is so small, or the gun/shooter/load is not accurate enough to detect or take advantage of it.
either way, unless you’re going for beyond-average precision at very long range, it’s not likely to make much difference. you can ring 12"x18" steel all day at 300 yards with just an Aimpoint…
Don’t worry about it, it won’t do any damage. I run with a flashlight with the end of the lens equal with the end of the battlecomp and it isn’t an issue with the heat. Run with it wherever it works and you’ll be fine.
It’s pretty hard to clean carbon that’s embedded into the plastic lense, I tried covering it with duct tape but that blew off after 100 rounds or so. Good thing it’s only a $100 stream light, not really worth my time to remove before the range
