Big coyote with a RRA .223

Todd Woodall and I went calling today, hunting was slow! We called this coyote from over a 1/2 mile away. He took his sweet time coming took him over 8 minutes to cover the last few hundred yards, slow but deliberate. We finally had enough video and I took him at about 50 yards. 1 shot drop with a RRA .223 and a Night Force scope. Todd is part of the Predator Pursuit team on the sportsman’s channel.

here are some pics of the actual video of him coming in.

That is a nice looking Yote…is a Taxidermist in its near future?

Good looking mutt. Can you imagine what a pack of them that size could do to the local deer population?

Great hunting and a real nice 'yote…

Did you use any decoy or bait or just rely on calling him in? I generally use armadillos for bait.

What type of ammo were you using?

He will not be going to the taxidermist. We have way more mounts than space and have 13 more deer that need mounted now and a few other critters that need mounted… I do my own taxidermy work when I have time which is a rare deal for me. Time that is. We do have a bobcat mount and a white coyote mounted also. We just kill way too many coyotes each year to mount any unless they are unique. My largest coyote was 61 pounds this one was way smaller than that.

We were using jackrabbit and cottontail sounds and a Jack attack decoy from FOXPRO.

Hornady ammo but I forget what grain bullet, other than a ballistic tip. Whatever Todd had on hand. I was shooting his rifle. Mine is on it’s way! I’m having a custom AR in .243 built by Specialized Dynamics. I give the specs when I get it with pics.

Good sized yote.

Good times, and useful in wildlife management and mitigation, but it’s not for the impatient.

sure it is. I’m impatient as heck. I very rarely sit in one spot more than 15 minutes.

thats one Big Yote!!! Very well done and you must have patients!!!

Shot this one last night 125 yard shot

Nice looking coyote Guess. Where were you hunting?

Not bad Glenn. Definitely looks big with you holding it.

I’m hunting in N.texas.

Guntrician, I may be short ,but I’m wide too!
There’s one in every crowd!

I got you you beat on being wide. I make the coyotes I’m holding look anorexic.

Nice pics.

Good looking yote, I can’t believe you wrote this and didn’t bother to mention what ammo you used and how well it worked… slacker:D

well you see here is the deal. I always shoot Remington ammo in my guns. I even hunt with a few of the Remington boys from time to time. I have always been a Remington ammo man. I’ve tried others and always end up shooting Remington again. However Hornady sponsors Todd’s TV show so Todd shoots hornady ammo. Now I know it had a red tip cuz I unloaded it for pictures, so it was ballistic tipped for sure. I know it had a silver casing and I know it was a .223. What I don’t know is what grain it was. Todd uses 3 different grain bullets that all shoot well out of his gun. Which I used for a year shooting hogs {head shots}. So all I had to do was call the coyote and make sure he died. He already has black mail footage of me MISSING a coyote at 40 yards. YEp I missed! it’s rare but it happens. We are going to film in the morning if weather allows. I’ll ask him then.
dang gun fanatics!

happy now:D

oh and he was DRT!

Okay got it, it was a 60 gr vmax.
