Big Bill NFA Changes?

Been living under a rock lately and just read a summary of some items included in the bill regarding NFA changes. Direct copy and paste from feed, although I cannot verify and not really interested in reviewing the 900 page bill.

Gun silencer fees eliminated

The bill eliminates a $200 fee that gun owners are charged when purchasing silencers and short-barrel rifles, as well as registration and ownership requirements. Since I haven’t read anything here on the topic, maybe it’s BS. Did this actually get included and passed?

It removes those from the scope of the 1934 National Firearms Act, a Prohibition-era law intended to crack down on gangland crime. That law remains in effect for machine guns and explosive devices.

EDIT, googled it a few different ways and the Tax seems to be eliminated although not sure when it takes effect.

90 days after signing.

You still have to deal with all the registration and inspection bullshit and permission slips for interstate travel, just don’t pay $200 for your assraping.

There are not one but TWO coalitions filing suit to have NFA on cans/SBR/SBS/AOW declared unconstitutional because the regulation is only “allowed” to support tax collection and poof of payment, and $0 taxes have case-law precedent as unconstitutional. One tem is led by NRA, FPC and SAF, the other by GOA, FRAC and Palmetto State Armory.

Exactly.

This nonsense will change nothing, for me, unless these lawsuits move forward and result in the proper and correct elimination of mufflers & "SBR"s (such arbitrary idiocy) from NFA, or better yet abolish NFA completely.

The bullshit $ 200 was only ever part of the problem.

Yep, blame Thune the spineless weasel who wouldn’t overrule the leftist Parliamentarian on anything or replace her. Still it’s a step in the right direction and does open up a very valid legal attack on the NFA Act itself.

This is a clear win.

The courts will take it from here. We have three years. If the NFA is truly gutted in that amount of time, it would be remarkable. Thinking about “progressive” increasing regulation of firearms over the last 90 years. It’s been much less time fighting back for concealed carry, then constitutional carry, now SBR’s, SBS’s, and suppressors.

But as always, we need our friend to revisit us and explain how the sporter clause of GCA 1968 is the biggest problem, and removing the NFA may not get us what we want.
