On 12-07-10 I ordered a DD 16" mid-length upper with MOE handguards from the SG website. In my giddyness at getting such a good deal I screwed up and ordered carbine-length handguards instead of mid-length 'guards.
A few days ago I got a notice that my order had “partially shipped” meaning the 'guards were coming from SG. Thats when I noticed the HG screw-up so I shot an e-mail to Tommy telling him of the problem.
His reply was to refuse delivery of the HG package and he’d get the correct ‘guards out to me. Next problem- the package shipped USPS not UPS so no refusal.
Tommy’s solution, on Sunday night I might add, is to send a call tag for the package. Thanks, Tommy.
Problem #3, there’s a $4.00 difference in the price of the HG’s. Tommy says “Merry Christmas, forget about it”.
So to wrap this mini-series up, I just want to let you all know about Tommy Malone & Smartgunner’s customer service being a stand-up company run by a stand-up guy.
We can all order with confidence from Smartgunner with a guy like Tommy runnin’ the ship. Thank You Tommy.
I know I’ve read positive reviews about SG but I at least would like to know when I would get my upper that I ordered 11/29 on the URG special. No replies to email.
I have seen many people complaining about Tommy not answering emails and requesting information on their builds, but understand that Tommy is pretty much handling this all on his own and is very busy. If you are looking to get an update, I would advise you to give him a call directly and talk to him. He’s always answered my calls and been very prompt in getting back to me if he had to.
That has not been my experience at all. He replied to all 5 of my emails promptly. I would give him a call. Very nice guy.
Since DD is making the uppers he really doesn’t control shipping times. Shipping times also vary by what you order. They run low/out of certain parts (most recently lite 12" rails) and that can delay your order. I think you can call DD directly and reference your SG order and they can give you details. All that being said, I would be patient. Got my first order after 3.5 weeks (no shipping notification), so yours may be on its way. Waiting on a second…
I ordered my upper on 11-17-10 and haven’t gotten a shipping notification yet. I was expecting four weeks and we’re going on five. Toss in Thanksgiving and it’s still within reason. He was a pleasure to work with when ordering, he even cut off $20 to keep from using an additional credit card.(using pre-paid cards from my fun money stash so the wife doesn’t get in a tizzy) I’m anxiously waiting. I just keep telling myself it’s not his fault, because it isn’t. I also bought a complete DDM4 lower from him and he got it out in a couple of days. I don’t either he or DD thought they would get this kind of response and are just overwhelmed with orders.
I ordered a 16" govt. midlength/ 12.0 Lite/YHF hider on 11/12 and it shipped out 12/3. Great upper, great price - I never needed to contact Tommy/SG about anything, so I didn’t have any CS needs.
If you ordered it pinned, expect a longer delay, and now it sounds like DD ran low on stock on some of the rails. I’m willing to be this sale (or whatever it is) put a hurt on their stock of 14.5" lightweight barrels as well.
I ordered a T1 from him last night, after 5:00 on a Sunday, and I received my shipping confirmation this afternoon. Who’d a thunk a T1 with free shipping for under $500.
The order that I placed on November 16 shipped the other day on December 18. A little over a month but I figure at such great prices there must have been a backlog of orders. I too tried checking on status via e-mail and did not get a response but I chalked it up to how busy Tommy must have been. My order was for a DD 14.5" lightweight middy with pinned YHM Phantom FH.
As far as feel, the Tactical Intent TI-7 is currently my favorite stock… that said, I haven’t run too many different stocks enough to form more than a preliminary opinion of most other options. I do love the TI-7, though.
Ordered my T-1 yesterday and got an email today that it has shipped! Might get lucky and get it in before Christmas. $564 for the T-1 and a DD mount is awful hard to beat!!
