Funny I was listening to a radio show today with an ex-SS agent who was also a beat cop prior to that, and he was asking what makes these politicians experts on what people need for self defense, and then I read this pile of crap quote from Biden that a double barrel shotgun is more effective for self defense than an [AR15] assault weapon. Biden has also recently claimed he took fire in Iraq, and heard a school shooting as it occurred from FIVE miles away while playing golf.
What makes a guy who spent a couple years as a lawyer, and then a politician from the 70’s an expert on what people should use for self defense, and a double barrel shotgun…really? I used to shoot trap with a Beretta 682X which had O/U barrels, and I can’t imagine being limited to TWO rounds then going through the very slow reload process a break action shotgun has.
“Guess what? A shotgun will keep you a lot safer, a double-barreled shotgun, than the assault weapon in somebody’s hands [who] doesn’t know how to use it, even one who does know how to use it,” the outspoken vice president, a shotgun owner himself, replied. “It’s harder to use an assault weapon to hit something than it is a shotgun. You want to keep people away in an earthquake? Buy some shotgun shells.”
Maybe the Secret Service agents assigned to him should be armed with O/U shotguns then. We sure wouldn’t want them armed with those impractical, underpowered assault weapons.
The people who are most afraid of firearms usually seem to know the least about them.
If I had my own security detail I could probably get by with an O/U shotgun as well. I am somewhat surprised he missed the “you only need to rack a round” benefits of the pump shotgun since those never even need to be fired.
