I can remember seeing a thread on the propper way to set up a VCAS sling (QD buckle to the front not the rear) . But after some searching I cant seem to find it. So if you know of this thread, please let me know.

I too am interested in this thread…I just received my VCAS and want to install it the properly

The instructions that came with mine are different. It shows the end with the quick release buckle as the butt stock end.

The web link helps but the confusing part is that the sling ships with the buckle on the other end. you have to move it.
Is this what you guys have found ?
I own two Vickers slings and they both had the QD buckle on the rear. I followed the diagram in the instructions and all is well.

The VCAS that I have is slightly different than the one in the PDF. Maybe I have a different version?

There are people who like mounting the sling both ways. There are also people who pull the QD buckle off, and use the sling without it.
Try it out a few different ways and see what works best for your uses.
I posted a “how many versions of these” thread awhile back because the first sling I got came setup for buckle-front mounting, and the most recent one I bought came setup for buckle-rear, but with instructions for buckle-front.
Now that I’ve run it both ways, I greatly prefer buckle-rear. Since the buckle is supposed to be to quickly ditch the rifle, but is something you don’t want to accidentally disengage, I find that putting it at the rear makes it easier to both release when I want to and protect when I don’t.
I also find that the buckle-front gets in the way more based on how/where I hold the carbine in the front. Putting it to the rear allows the sling to lay flatter at the front and not add extra bulk where I don’t want it.
I’ll eventually change all of them to buckle-rear.
Buckle-rear

Buckle-front

I actually jsut found that thread about 15 min ago. After playing with it i actually like the buckle to the rear (for now) But thanks for the info.

Rob,
This is off topic, but I was wondering if you’re still putting the SR 15 through the paces and what you think of it.
Sadly the SR15 has to go back next week. With the holidays and some personal issues I didn’t get to shoot it nearly as much as I would have liked, and never did get to “bench” the gun with magnified glass. ![]()
I am taking Saturday to try to shoot a whole ton of pics of it though, and the results will be posted here.
Rob, I have an early vintage SR15 M4, let me know if you’re interested in using it for side-by-side pics or if you want to run this one sometime just for shits and giggles.
Looking forward to the pics and AAR of the new SR15.

Thanks for the heads up with removing the QD buckle.. I took mine off 2 of my carbines and now they function way nicer. :D
I think I need another now. :p
The instructions that come with the sling are a bit confusing at first (quick)glance. However, if you look/read closely, you will come to the conclusion that it shows several ways to attach the sling in different configurations, it is just not blatantly obvious. Since the picture in the instructions doesn’t look like the sling out of the bag, I think that confuses some people at first. Regardless of the configuration it’s in, the sling works better than any of the others out there, especially when wearing body armor, IMO.
