Better stop for that bunny...

This was too funny to watch… “Why no Officer I didn’t see the six foot tall bunny rabbit in the crosswalk…”

A 6-foot Easter bunny played the lead role Wednesday in a traffic sting in San Pedro.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division used the bunny to make a point to drivers that pedestrians have the right of way at all crosswalks.

Sixty citations were issued to drivers who failed to yield and two cars were impounded during the five-hour operation. Motorists who stopped to let the bunny hop along Gaffey Street received baskets with treats and gift cards.

“If a motorist cannot stop for a person wearing a bunny suit, who knows what else they won’t stop for - the elderly, schoolchildren,” said Senior Lead Officer Joe Buscaino. “It’s all about getting people to slow down and be vigilant when driving.”

California law states that motorists cannot impede the forward movement of a person crossing in any crosswalk.

So far this year, four accidents involving vehicles and pedestrians have occurred on Gaffey, said Officer William McDonald with the South Traffic Division.
