Hi guys, first off before i take some artillery to the dome, this is a cosmetic fix, not functionality fix. Will not drop the mfg. but its top 3 on the “chart”. I have a total of 3 of these specific lowers with 2 being fantastic in respect to finish. I have tried to overlook now for a cpl. yrs. but i figured heck if i could spend $20 or $30 for can of flat black dura coat or something why not have it perfect.
The PROBLEM: Anno is all good, and so no major surgery needed. The problem is around all roll marks, esp. on the serial # side surrounding the entire panel containing it. The actual effect is a “whitening” or “clouding” in the areas in ?..and i cannot always get a digi cam to pick it up, but suffice to say its really noticeable.
So would i be ok getting a can of dura coat from brownells in the flat black to touch this lower to spec as closely as possible. If better products exist, love to hear about those…hyde II I like for most firearm applications i have used it for, but from my exp. its a bit thick and a bit more textured than i would like on an AR lower.
So any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated gents, and thanks very much in advance for those who do reply:)
Sounds like the typical dried out finish often found on new receivers. The white areas are most likely areas void of any lubrication in the pores of the finish.
Try taking a cheap 2” paint brush, and applying a light coat of CLP to the finish. Wipe this down with a rag. An old black t-shirt often works best for this.
Thanks pal, go down right now to try. I will say however these lil babies take CLP baths every time home from shooting but i have never tried the black t shirt.

update…ok, so i applied clp on thick over the panel, waited a min or two, and then took the tee and wipe it down with some force esp. at the end. No results, however i think you proved that this effect is in anno process. The whitening is really like if you took bluing really light…if that makes since. So i think the areas in ? do not have the same depth coat of anno that the rest has…i.e. this effect is worst around the roll marks and in the corners and on the fence on the other side. At any rate it seems to be "locked into the actual anno…again if that makes a damn bit of sense
