I have a EMC, I need to remove the flash hider so I can install my Brakeout to use my -6. My problem is my barrel clamps are to big to sit on the barrel, and I do not have a set of upper reciever blocks, nor do I plan on buying a set for one job.

Measure the outside diameter of the barrel. Drill a hole of that size into a 2x4. Saw it in half so there’s a “half moon” hole in each side. Clamp the barrel in that. Easey peasey.
Even though the gas block is going to be the part being gripped? There is no room from the rail to the gas block, than barely enough to the flash hider to get a 3/4 wrench on.
Provided the gasblock is pinned, that should not be an issue to clamp there. Revised suggestion, use leather or wood to clamp the gas block and twist away.
Just looked at a photo of an EMC, I forgot how little barrel was exposed.
Just looked around and it would appear that EMCs have pinned gas blocks. Just clamp on the gas block and you’ll be fine. I’ve made FSB clamps out of wood for the exact reason we’re talking right now pic rail/FSB/10.5 barrel…
BTW, NEVER use upper receiver blocks to remove/install muzzle devices.
All right then, thats good to know, so wood first, get resonably close to fit, verse leather correct? Now you see my issue, no dang room
Yeah I see what you were saying about the lack of room.
Either leather or wood will work. You just want it secure so it doesn’t move and you will also want it protected from the vice jaws. If you have a piece of leather laying around, it will be a much quicker set up as opposed to modifying a block of wood to work. Whatever is easiest for you.
I never liked the idea of using the upper in a vice, guess I had a brain shut down as to why I didnt thing of the block of wood or leather strap? I do have a few old tennis shoes that could be donated to a worthy cause, not sure if that would be better due to the shape of the gas block?
I recall KevinB from KAC stating they use a fixture that clamps to the gas block, so you should be gtg that way.
Well I got it! I ended up cutting a old tennis shoe up, and taking the strip of leather, wrapping the gas block, than putting it in my vice, I just applied slow steady pressure and it popped off, now I have my AAC muzzle brake on it so I can use my -6, I just wish AAC had used their Breakout instead, but I digress.

Man the A2 on my mod 1 is a BITCH to get off. Never had this much trouble getting a hider off.
Using the DPMS wrench, I cant even get it to budge. Its on there crazy tight.
Scared I am going to rip the barrel out of the upper if I go any harder.

Replaced a ton of FH’s without the need of actionblocks/vise…Looks Like I might have to go down this route.
Is it new or has lots of rnds through it? Might be carbon build up holding it in place. I don’t think they use rockset, but heat won’t help if rockset, but if used loctite, heat would help

Its just torque. I had one that was a pain to remove. I just locked down the barrel and removed it.
If you can’t do that, I would suggest using a KAC or Geissele Reaction Rod.
Geissele’s reaction rod won’t work. I’ve removed a couple of these recently without any issues. Strange…
Same here. I use kroil wait a few minutes and then use the hammerhead tool.
I do have the URX rail vise but I dont recall ever needing it for changing out the FH but I do have one to swap out soon so we’ll see.

Yea i dont have any shop tools at my house here besides basic stuff and my AR15 tool. My shop is a few hours away, and would cost more in gas than its worth.
I don’t know what to do at this point. I am scared to torque it against the rail or uppper. I was starting to see some barrel flex and , stopped.
All these days in the gym are starting to pay off. Feels like im about to rip the barrel/gas tube out of the upper.
I am putting some serious force into this, and it wont even budge. I have never seen a FH this tight before.
Anyone in NOVA have a Reaction rod (if it will even work) or similar I can borrow/use in exchange for a case of beer or bottle of bourbon?
