Best stock for an SPR wanna-be?

I’m not too thrilled with the stock I have on my SPR, pretty wiggly (Mako GLR-16) so I’m gonna stick it on an AK and get a proper one. Any recommendations?

A2 fixed stock…

Or something nice like an LMT SOPMOD style stock which offer comfy cheekweld, IMO.

The sopmod stock is the most comfortable one I’ve used. Can’t beat the adjustability and cheek weld.

I just replaced an A1 on my SPR with a sopmod.

Couldn’t justify the price before the B5 came out, but now that they can be found for under $100 it’s hard to beat.

I like the Vltor A5 system. it softens recoil, allows the stock to be extended even longer than the A2 for prone shooting, and collapses for transport…

SOPMOD or UBR.

The SOPMOD sucks if you are going to use a rear bag.
The best, in my opinion, is the STR.
Other acceptable stocks;
A2
ACR
E-Mod
PRS
UBR

The UBR is a bit expensive for what you really get, but it is nice.
The PRS really is the gold standard for adjustable AR precision stocks, but it’s a bit bulky for anything but dedicated precision shooting.

you like the STR over the ACS-L?

I have an Emod on my A5 RE and don’t have any problems with it, but I’m curious about the either of those…

I like the STR as the best combination of the CTR and ACS at a very reasonable price point.
This is mostly based on my “one gun” application: a gun with which I can seamlessly transition from enclosure clearing to urban combat, to 800 meter precision work.

The fixed moe stock is awesome on my “SPR”.

I’m very happy with my STR

Personally, I prefer the UBR. With stocks like the CTR, MOE & STR, part of my face ends up on the bare receiver extension. The fixed cheek piece of the UBR cures that. Downsides to the UBR are cost and weight. Upside is that it’s adjustable and very durable. If the UBR were lighter, I’d use it on everything

A2 is pretty inexpensive and works, PRS is like others said the “gold standard” but some dislike due to weight.

another option that came out recently was Batteline Industries S.A.P.R which gives some REALLY cool adjustability to adjustable stocks.

I look forward to trying one shortly, been hearing good things from some SWAT buddies of mine.

The UBR and PRS look pretty awesome, but they’re stretching (alot) what I can spend at the moment. I’m liking the STR as well, it seems to follow the same pattern as the SOPMOD ones that seem well liked, but with a slightly different look. If I get another Magpul gadget on my ARs, they’re gonna have to kick in some advertising money or something. This was the one rifle I had that was Magpul-less, but what can I say, they make good stuff. I think so far the STR is the winner, unless some more letters get added to the alphabet soup of stocks.

I prefer the STR as well.

I still wait for the day that Magpul releases an improved version that uses a milspec tube and is MUCH lighter. I would use it for everything too.

My SPR happily wears an A2. Its perfect for me but I can imagine if you are tall or for whatever reason the A2 may not be a perfect fit. When in doubt I always take a look at what our service men use…most SPRs I’ve seen are wearing SOPMODs. If you are a collector those are your two options. If you’re a shooter there are so many options these days its all about personal preference. Hell Magpul alone is a smorgasbord of SPR adjustability.

I’m running an ACS-L with a VLTOR A5 on mine and I love it.

ACS… because it was built 2 years ago, and still works for me.

I agree with TWW, I’ve had the original ACS for a couple years and it gives the look/feel of an A1/A2 stock, but not fixed so you can adjust length. Perfect for SPR. For a lighter AR it’s hard to beat the CTR.
