Best Source for Women's Self Defense Course near Dayton, OH (non-weapon centric)

M4C,

I have a job that requires me to be away from my wife a fair amount and I would like to get her some solid training on how to take prudent measures to avoid bad situations, and should a bad situation present itself, how to counter the threat. She’s not ready to get a gun and carry yet, but she would be receptive to other types of selfe defense training. I am hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. Additionally, most of my collegues are in the same situation, and if possible maybe it would work to have a course for a whole class of spouses. I am looking for legitimate training based on the most prevalent types of attack and the most effective counter measures. Please provide any constructive inputs as far as where to look, what topics should be covered, training timeframes, price ranges, and any other pertinent info.

Thank You, RS4

Southnarc Practical Unarmed Combat course is a good starter, as well as the Tony Blauer courses.

The Kettering PD puts on those RAD classes.

Kettering Police Offering Rape Defense Course
KETTERING – The Kettering Police Department is holding a RAD instructional course, a women’s self-defense training course. RAD is an acronym for Rape Aggression Defense Systems.

Attendees can expect to develop and enhance their options of self-defense, so they may become viable considerations if they are attacked.

The RAD System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD is not a martial arts program.

This course will be taught by nationally certified RAD instructors and will provide each student with a workbook/reference manual. The workbook/reference manual outlines the entire physical defense program for reference and continuous growth, and is the key to our free lifetime return and practice policy for RAD graduates.

The next program will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on four consecutive Tuesdays, March 4, 11, 18 and 25. This is a 12-hour course spread out over four Tuesdays.

This course is offered for $25 to cover course materials (additional family members pay only $10). Class size is limited to 25 students. First class of each session meets at the Kettering Police Department, 3600 Shroyer Road. The last three classes of each session will meet at Barnes Education Center.

If you would like to register for this or future self-defense training programs, or have any questions, call Sgt. Lee Sanders at 937-296-3250. (If you leave a voicemail, please state your NAME(S), ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER.)Kettering Police Offering Rape Defense Course

Regardless of which seminar-based class she does; she’ll need concurrent training to really make any of the stuff work for her. I suggest looking for a martial art (BJJ for example) school for her to attend as well

Thank you so much for the great replies. I will try to get her in the Kettering PD course first, and then try to expand it from there. Thank you again for linking me to these resources.
