If you were going to buy a aimpoint set up from scratch today and had no budget; you wanted QD mounts for both the aimpoint and the 3x magnifier and the magnifier mount be side flip.

Honestly i will be using the red dot alone 90% of the time. The 3X is more for range fun/classes/zombies etc.
T1/H1 should be good out to 300y as long as you have a solid zero and your ammo doesn’t suck.
The 3x magnifier is good, but sorta annoying. I tried it on a test setup and wasn’t a fan. The price combination of the T1 + Aimpoint 3x is around the price of a useable 1-6x, like the Leupold multigun 1-6x. That thing is good and can be used as a red-dot at 1x.
I use an Eotech G26 magnifier between various rifles with Eotechs, a couple of PROs and a 4MOA T-1. It works great with the Eotechs and the 2MOA PRO, kinda blobby with the 4MOA dot. It would likely be fine with a 2MOA T-1. I used to use the thing just for sighting in, but last year used it in a 2 day carbine course. I liked it. Wasn’t really a problem with my SBR, but I confess it did get a little heavy toward the end of the second day on my 16 inch Light Recce.
The new Eotech G33 is excellent. IMHO, more cost-effective than the Aimpoint magnifier.
I like the Aimpoint twist mount because I have the TNVC mount for my PVS-14. I also like that it’s not on the gun but it’s only a quick twist to put it on the rifle. It’s not ideal, but if a target is at the range where I’d want to use the magnifier, I’d have enough time to put the magnifier on.
The lever quick-detach on the Eotechs is nice, and pretty quick, but I like the flip to side capability in a carbine course. Then I always know where it is and it’s one less thing to hang on your gear. And it’s much faster.
I haven’t been to a carbine course that required the precision of an Aimpoint at a distance where the magnifier would be required to attain that precision. When it comes to speed, the flip is still slower than just running without.
Out to 300 (generally) yards there’s no need for the magnifier, and realistically if you’ve got time to engage targets farther away, you either have enough time to slap a magnifier on, or take the time to hold over.
Depending on your eyesight, the magnifier is very useful at 35-50 yards. Twist-off would be non-useful.
Do not forget the importance of target/threat identification.
Ouch! Having to use a magnifier that close…I think I’d be saving up for eyeball surgery. Good point though.
I use the Eotech G33 with my Aimpoint T-1 and love it, Works great.
