Best Reliable .308 semi auto best bang for the Buck??

I like the AR platform but the AR10 doesn’t have that many reliable rifle’s. Other than the LMT MWS and a few others. The FN SCAR 17 is nice but too expensive. I have thought about a Springfield Scout Squad as for $1,500 one can be acquired. My guns are all defensive guns and I don’t hunt. I have a bolt action .308 but don’t really use it. I see that a lot of guys like the light Smith & Wesson M&P10. I want another caliber semi auto rifle not in 5.56 or 5.45 nor 7.62x.39

Stag arms is one that comes to mind that is budget friendly

What’s your source for this statement?

If someone buys a KAC, LMT, or DD 308, it’s highly likely their decision was because Aero, Mega, Armalite, Smith & Wesson, Stag, Rock River Arms, and Colt options aren’t reliable.

For value to quality, Mega is probably one of the best options. We offer great discounts on their stuff as well (use coupon code MEGA18) http://www.gandrtactical.com/Mega-Arms_bymfg_26-4-1.html

Just alot research and alot of article’s. From reading up about AR10’s reliability issue’s just come up more. Not from the upper tier one’s that you mention.

You may want to take a look at the PWS Mk2 308. It uses a long stroke piston design, is relatively inexpensive, and seems to be absolutely reliable.

I hear great things from PWS rifle’s and then don’t hear much about the company. I definitely will check it out though.

Best kept secret in the firearms industry. Absolutely love mine. My favorite AR.

My FN SCAR 17 has been “bet your life on it” reliable. It’s on the expensive side of the discussion. Depends what you value most I guess.

My Armalite has been extremely reliable. But putting .308 and “defensive” in the same sentence doesn’t really make sense. I kinda enjoy being offensive sometimes.

AR10s have always had more reliability issues than AR15s. It hasn’t been until relatively recently that some of the big players have gotten the bugs worked out.

The question becomes, how reliable? If you want the most reliable then you’ve got to pay for it. Manufactures with large US and foreign contracts are a good place to start and a relatively short list (read LMT, KAC and HK.)

If reliable enough is what you’re looking for, then the market opens up a lot. Building 308 ARs is more of a gamble than buying a quality one as you can’t control all of the critical specs. For general plinking and hunting the market is wide open.

Well I lost my 90lb defensive German Shepard early this morning. He was almost 10. A great defender! I agree that offensive is enjoyable and doesn’t necessarily mean your going on the offensive. .308 puts bad guys down for sure and its a not playing around type caliber. Life Sucks!!! NO, Aging Sucks!!!

sorry to hear that, my condolences

I’m so sorry, sir -

Thanks guys because for the first time in 44 years (48 now) I’m finally all by myself. It proves that life is not to be wasted and now I’m gonna have to find a perfect woman. That is an impossible task.

Finding the perfect woman is actually an easy task. Finding one who is perfect AND available AND wants you is what’s so hard.

I’ve had great success with my S&W M&P10, it really is an excellent rifle. My favorite in the AR10 series.

FWIW Ive had a cheap bushmaster AR10, repr, and now a scar 17. They all worked perfectly and ate any crap I fed them… thats an $800 rifle all the way to a $3500+ rifle

I actually think the M&P 10 is probably one of the best bang for the buck firearms on the market period !
Outstanding rifle at a reasonable price.

Works for me.
