Best Rear BUIS on CAR

Whats the best rear sight for an A4 CAR length upper? Will any do? Or are there certain ones made for certain length gas system? Sorry about the noob essence to this queston but it would be real nice if someone would educate me on how the different lengths matter.

Because Ive seen sights that say they are for CAR systems and others for Rifle lengths:confused:

I somewhat understand why but I would benefit from someone putting it in plain ol english for me.:stuck_out_tongue: Thanks

Depend on the type of optics you might want to install. If your going to use an Aimpoint or EOTech, I’d use an LMT rear sight. If your going to use a scope or ACOG, your going to want to use a folding rear sight. I’d use a Troy or GG&G MAD.

If I’m not mistaken, it also depends on whether you have an ā€œFā€ marked FSB or not.

If it is F marked, you should be able to use any type of rear buis you want to, as they are all to the same specs… I think.

Sorry sorry, I forgot to say folding sight, im going to put a low power scope on it. Its an A4 CAR kit from RRA.

Well you certainly can’t go wrong with one of these:

I liked the magpul MBUS since they came out not to long ago, but will they work with a standard A2 front sight base? Or rather does anybody know whether RRA uses standard A2 front sight bases? I looked on there website but to no avail, they dont say.

They will all work. Personally I prefer the Troy. If the FSB is not ā€œF markedā€ you could always buy a taller front sight post (if you could not get it to zero properly).

So essentially most BUIS are made for F marked FSB’s right? If so what are the uses of a non F marked FSB on a flat top upper?

Possibly, not much. Hence it’s mention on ā€œthe chartā€.

I’m running a Magpul MBUS on Rock River carbine and it works just fine. The base of the front sight pin is flush with the top of the sight well just like it is supposed to be.

Troy Folding Rear Battle Sight is my favorite

Everyone above mentioned good sights. There is one that I’ve come to like and that’s the ARMS 40L and 40L SP. I don’t use many of ARMS’s products, but I’ve come to appreciate the 40 series low profile and apparent quality.

I got to mess with the MAGPUL back up sights at the SHOT show this past year and I liked them too. However, I haven’t used them extensively like the 40s.

i have the 40L on one rifle, where the 40L was pretty much the only BUIS that would fit under the ocular lens of my scope. its not bad. i dont like the ā€œmousetrapā€ release on it tho. seems like it would be tough to deploy while wearing gloves or under the stress of a firefight, as it is a fine motor skill.

a minor gripe is that it is held up by spring tension, and doesn’t really lock in place…but that doesnt really matter much, more of a preference thing.

if you need a really flat BUIS, the 40L is pretty damn low

for the $, magpul, for shear strength, troy

Thanks guys, I actually was planning on the magpul rear sight but needed to know the ins and outs of the A2/non A2 FSB’s. Im just planning on plinking with it before I get my scope and mounts laid out. And the magpul is a lot cheaper alternative to a carry handle. The magpuls wont lose their zero over time will they? Since their plastic and all? I know a troy or MI or better one would stand up to more abuse but just over all, have any of you all’s MBUS’s failed or got sloppy?

I just added a Magpul MBUS when I mounted a Vortex red-dot. The MBUS zeroed fine with the stock LMT front sight.

Parabellum,

It’s not my idea, but someone, and I forget who commented to me one time that they liked the idea of the 40 series being under spring tension because it would be more likely to survive a glancing blow as opposed to a rigid BUIS. On the surface, it seemed like a valid point.
