Hi guys, I need recommendation for the best possible optics for the SCAR 17? Originally I was getting the Nikon Monarch X 4-16x50, but it sounds like there are better options.
I’m looking more for long-range obviously. I want to setup my SCAR 17S as a long-range gun as I’ve got my FS2000 with EOTech and 3X FTS for CQB. Would like something capable of allowing me to see a target at 1,000 yards, but also something at 50 yards, if that’s possible.
what’s your budget?
The SCAR will destroy a lot of optics from what I’ve heard.
There are many optic brands that are better than Nikon’s Monarch series.
US Optics, Schmidt & Bender, Leupold, Nightforce, Swarovsky, Vortex’s Razor HD, etc
These should all tolerate a SCAR’s recoil impulse.
IMHO, if you want a 1,000 yard capable single optic solution, there is more than a good chance that its low end magnification will be less than ideal at 50 yds and possibly even at 100 yds.
We’re going to need a budget here or else we’re just typing for fun.
buddy put Narrowing down your requirements will definitely help give you more viable options. A buddy put this M-223 3-12x42 on his SCAR 16S without any issues and we had a blast hitting steel. He put a M-308 4-16x42 on his 17S and that worked great as well. Lots of great scope options available to you. I’d definitely consider a 20MOA mount to help you with your 1000 goal for your SCAR 17.

Trijicon 1-8 unless your going to try and shoot out past 600 yards.
I have a Steiner GS3 2-10 on my 17 with no issues so far
Another Nikon choice you might like is the BLACK x1000 4-16x50. It has a 30mm tube, and you can get it with a MOA or MRAD reticle and turrets to match. I have been using 3 for the past year on 2 6.5cm’s and 1 .308. Great features and glass. Definitely, put it on your list of scopes to check out. Maybe some of the Sponsor’s here can help you out too?

That is what I have on mine, but I think no matter what you do, the lure of more magnification will always be powerful.
Great to know you are a pro cuz that is one heck of a pic! I agree that the more we ask of our rifles the greater our wants for increased magnification and clarity. It all comes at a price.
Fantastic pic, nice rifle too!
My first choice would be the NightForce 2.5-10. That would be a fantastic scope to get you out pretty darn far with a SCAR Heavy. I think that scope checks a lot of boxes, for what I would want. Good mag range, super durable, usable bottom end. If you really want to go up in power, the ATACR 4-16 would certainly be up to the task. Between those 2, I think it’s just a choice of what power you want.
Ive been running an ACOG TA55 on mine, on a Larue mount. No complaints and hits out to 500 are no problem.
I’ve been running a Leupold Mark 8 - CQBSS for several years without issue.
The NightForce 2.5-10x24 (the new limited production model) is what I currently have on mine, along with offset KAC sights.
I have used several Leupold 1-4s (not enough mag, but very lightweight), an IOR 1.5-8x (great glass, magnification, but too heavy) before getting to the NF.
For me the sweet spot in weight is an optic less than 20 oz - anything more and I find that the rifle gets very top heavy and wants to lean when making lateral transitions - IMO this is due to the high top rail and higher center of gravity caused by the polymer lower construction.
I think I would be happy with a 1-8x optic. I may try the NX-8, since it’s light enough. I just need to save up some money to give it a try.
One of my good friends bought this weapon and did a great deal of research. As was posted, there are very few optics that can handle the recoil. It’s a sharp recoil that destroys optics. It would chew that Nikon up in a day or two.
ACOG or Nightforce …my buddy went with Elcan Spectar. You might be surprised how far you can shoot a 4X optic. Do your research on your choice before you buy. And specifically your gun with that optic.
That Trij or NF 1-8 would be seem pretty sweet if you can afford. My buddy also bought the 13.5 barrel and I ran it CQB style, it rattled my jaw pretty good.

I am partial to HK’s and FN’s. I have to say that this is absolutely one of my favorite photos you have posted. I had been keeping up with this thread because I recently bout a SCAR 17s too. Thanks for posting Stickman!
