Best Muzzle brake/compensator

Whats the best muzzle brake/compensator for a carbine length 5.56/.223 ??

I don’t care about noise as much as muzzle rise/recoil.

Thanks.

If you are not concerned about muzzle flash or side blast then the Surefire MB556K is the best I have used.

I would throw my vote to Battlecomp. I believe more traditional brakes will offer more recoil mitigation though. I have so far only used Battlecomp and the effin-a.

SJC Titan, Benny Hill’s Rolling Thunder, TTi recoil eliminator, JP’s Bennie Cooley Comp, F2 comp, Jerry Miculeks brakes, PRI brakes and all the brakes from Surefire, They all work very well and are extremely loud.

For a much quieter comp which is also nice when shooting around the ground and barricades (because it won’t kick up as much debris and will not push off of the barricades) the KAC Triple Tap and Battlecomps are excellent.

Many other things effect how effective a comp or brake works…like ammo, barrel profile and weight, overall carbine/rifle weight, cyclic rate, buffer weight, shooters stance and body weight etc.

If I didn’t care about rattling my brain, the SJC Titan would be my pick.

For me, the BC is the least offensive. It also does a fair job at killing flash.

C4

I agree on the Surefire’s and the SJC Titan. If I only cared about recoil reduction, these are great choices.

If you care about flash & sound as well, Midwest Industries is probably the best do it all, master of none. You have to time it just right.

I like my Battle Comp.

My vote is in for Battlecomp

The best pure muzzle brake I’ve ever tested for the AR is the Dlask A6. It’s performance is simply outstanding for this platform.

There are a couple of different options on their website. Can you clarify which one?

The louder and more obnoxious the better it seems when it comes to recoil and muzzle rise such as the jp, surefire, smith, ect. Now if you actually like your shooting buddies and you still want them to like you, I prefer the battlecomp.

The one that is listed as being designed for the AR15 perhaps?

I like the Miculek for value ($30). The Dlask looks like a good design. I don’t like brakes that direct gasses up and the muzzle down like the battlecomp.

F2 Dreadnaught. Works like a dream.

I really like my BC1.0. Good combination of muzzle control and not super loud. I decided on trying the BC 1.0 in large part due to the extensive feedback from a thread on BC’s a while back.

I’m surprised no one mentioned the PWS FSC 556. I came pretty close to getting one of those instead of the BC 1.0. One of my shooting buddies had one on his Colt 6920 and it felt like an almost straight back pressure/recoil. It’s pretty loud for anyone on the side to about 45 degrees back from the muzzle though.

I’m thinking BC (or standard A2) for any AR that I’ll use in a carbine class and a FSC 556, Surefire, or other brake for a competition AR.

Battlecomp-- best overall IMO.

All these comments about pissing off your shooting buddies, are they not wearing hearing protection, or does the noise require doubling up?

I can see the potential from getting banned from an indoor range…

Couple of my friends have JP rifles (with JP brakes), and I can tell you that ComTacs are completely unsatisfactory for bystanders when those guns start blazing. I’ve toyed with the idea of giving them a buttstroke for every shot they fire - just so we all get the same experience.

So to answer your question; yes many brakes are downright nasty to be around (the more effective the worse they are to be around).
