Best method for storing AK magazines?

I currently have all of my magazines store in a single larger pelican case (note: very large pelican case). However, I started to recently figure that isn’t very practical, since the box becomes too heavy to move and basically is just a storage unit.

I want something that’s slightly more mobile that I can bring along with me. I know AR magazines fit into military surplus ammo cans fairly easily. However, do AK magazines fit in these ammo cans just as well, even though they have more of a curved shape to them? If so, which sized ammo cans would work best?

Easy my friend. Make caches. Put them in AK mag pouches, if you have them, and then put them in some kind of storage container. I use wooden ammo crates. Let me get you some pics. AKs are my speciality. LOL!!!

Oh and another thing you can do, leave some AK mags in your gtg/training gear. So whenever the zombies come, you grab your kit, you’ll have mags.

Interesting set up you have there. Do you keep it in one place or do you actually lug it around with you to the range as well.

Oil them with 3 in 1 oil inside and out reassemble insert in plastic bag put in appropriate sized bag. 25 to a box tape and stack.
I have about two dozen I use at the range.

My spare mags are just that, spares. They’re stored away as back ups.
I keep a few in my gear and those are my go to/range mags. Besides, the most I take with me to the range is 2 mags, 3 the most. I’ve steered away from bringing the so called “full battle rattle” to the range simply because that’s not my profession. I’m a private citizen and majority if not all engagements in the civilian world, heck even LE world, won’t go past 3 rifle mags. But that’s just me.

The best way to store mags is to use USGI ammo cans with new or excellent condition lid seal.

Milk crates. I leave some loaded mags in “go” condition in mag bags and chicom chest rigs with my rifles. The rest are in milk crates. One crate for loaded and another for empty.

I keep my chest rig full and the spare mags I store in a 50 cal ammo can with moisture absorbents. Also I wax my rifle and pistol mags. Dirt and grit don’t stick to them and it keeps them from rusting.

I keep spare mags for all platforms in large plastic storage bins. The key is climate control, ie air conditioning. You can also toss some VCI chips in for extra protection.

In the one I have I can store 10 30rd AK mags and 10 8rd P220 mags. The weight is about perfect. Not too heavy and you have plenty of loaded mags for whatever you might need them for.

When going to the range or BLM to shoot, simply a easy way to store/move the magazines, etc.

There are/can be multiple reasons for storing the mags in a .50 cal ammo can.

I tried today. I got 11 steel mags in one .50 can. Two stacks of 5 on edge, then one flat across the top.

I think .50 cal ammo cans is the way to go for me then. Too bad all guys selling it (that buy it from mil auctions) are all like 50-75 miles away, so I need to make sure I know how many I want/need before making the trip out there.

The reason I do it is for mobility. Makes preparing for defensive and tactical classes easy. I load up all my mags so I spend more time learning and shooting rather then loading mags.
