Hey guys,
I have been loading 230 grain Rainer and some lead. What is the cheapest option for loading 45? These will be shot through 1911s.

Home cast 230gr round nose, at least that is what I load. I use a LEE 6 cavity mold and can put out a good supply in a few hours. I use Lee Alox tumble lube and 5.6grs of 231 and my 1911’s love them.
I use Precision Bullets for my practice rounds. Fairly inexpensive, free shipping, less lead exposure.
Thanks for the link. I’m going to try those out next time I order bullets.
Do you load with gloves? Do you really want to handle unencapsulated lead and have heavy metals build up in your body?
'm sticking to Rainier.
I have gotten where I wear gloves when I reload, lead or not. For the same reason you say. I worry about handling the cases, primers, etc also.
When I was shooting, and reloading, .45 for the 1911 my load was always with a 200 grain lead semi-wadcutter. I loaded them so they just made the power floor for IDPA and had the springs in my guns set up accordingly. I really like the LSWC because it leaves a nice big hole that is easily identifiable. In shooting matches it made it easy to scan the targets at the end of the stage and see if I needed any makeup shots (which is not the same thing as looking for your hits from shot-to-shot or target-to-target).
I also wore gloves anytime I reloaded, as well as safety glasses even over top of my prescription glasses. I had purchased a small dust mask from Home Depot that I was going to start wearing as well but I stopped reloading altogether for a variety of reasons and never started using it.
